  • Books for kids...

Hawaii is in 3rd place as of today.

There is a book contest that awards 50,000 books to the state with the most votes.

It is easy to vote. All you have to do is visit the website once a day (16 days left) and choose Hawaii. You don't have to fill in the other pukas. Just go to the box that asks where you want 50,000 books to be sent and find Hawaii on the drop down menu. You only have to click on WHERE DO YOU WANT THE BOOKS TO GO....it's the only required field.

    Here's the link:

    http://booksforkids.firstbook.org/whatbook/about.php

Send this link to all your family and friends who will vote for
Hawaii. Our Hawaii kids will benefit.

You know, my sister sent this link to me (she sends me a lot of things), but I thought: Hawaii, we're a small state, so there's no way we can win. So I did not go there. But if, as you say, we're in 3rd place ... then hell, yeah! I'll go there and help.

    Thanks, Sue.

      Re: Books for kids...

      Thanks for posting this, Tutusue!

I also got a version of this message via email today, and checked out the First Book.org website.
Totally legit, and it was SUPER EASY to vote!

I got curious about what it might take to win this... here's what I found at First Book.org:
      • This is an annual contest, now in its third year.

      • 2007 (first year): Oklahoma won, garnering more than 34,000 votes.
Total number of votes cast that year was nearly 133,000.

      • 2008: Kentucky won with nearly 94,000 votes out of more than 250,000 total votes cast.

So--it appears that First Book.org has not yet experienced the kind of enthusiastic voting that HAWAII is known for when local folks "get into the game!" (Or, as it's been referred to previously, the "Jasmine Trias Effect.")

Whaddya think? Can we rally the "Coconut Wireless?"
Let's get out the vote so they can send those 50,000 books to Hawaii this year!

As McGarrett would say: "Book 'em, Danno!"
To be, or musubi... What was da question?

Remember, everyone can vote once a day. I assume that means from the same thingamajig! IP address? Maybe that's it! If you have access to more than one computer during the course of your day...VOTE FROM EACH ONE...for the next 16 days! Hawaii can do it! BTW...it was also on the news either last night or this morning. Damn short term memory!

Last I checked, we are in 1st place!

It is a contest that will give the winning state 50,0000 books.
The books will go to the children in need throughout the state.
The only required field is the one for state you are voting for!
Hawaii is currently in FIRST place. It was at 3 yesterday, let's do our best!

              I've included the link: http://booksforkids.firstbook.org/whatbook/about.php.
The link is also at the Channel 2 web site.

YAY! When I posted this morning I'd just voted and we were still in 3rd! I was just able to vote again so it appears we can each vote as many times as we'd like! And I bet that's what's happening what with all the messages that have gone out on Facebook and Twitter. Very cool!

                    WOO-HOO!

Just entered my second day's vote and yes, Hawaii is currently at #1!

Someone told me that on Sunday, we were in 47th place... moved up to #8 on Monday, and by Tues (yesterday), we were #3.

Way to go, gang... keep up the great work!

I voted a few times and will keep voting every day

It asks, "What book got you hooked?" I think for me, it was Charlotte's Web.

Edited: Loved Dr. Seuss books, too

Voted for the second time. Everyone, vote, vote, vote! One a day.

But now I have to think about what books I used to read when I was that young. Do comic books count?

Guess what, Honoruru? People can vote more than once a day. I tested it and voted 3 times today! Hence, the Jasmine Trias effect!
