Re: Bread maker is coming backout now that winter is here.

I once bought a bread maker as a Christmas gift for my Mom. She never used it. In fact, she was astonished that someone actually invented such a thing. She said: Wouldn't it be easier to just buy a loaf at the grocery store?

[By the way, my Mom was really a great cook. She would spend the better part of a day making a large batch of maki sushi, which really involves a lot of work. She just wasn't much of a bread person; she was more of a rice person.]

Sometimes we are snowed in and can't get to a store. This time of year the bread maker is essential. By no means am I an expert at using it ! but I am learning and the aroma throughout the house is wonderful.

Try this...mix together all of the dry ingredients and put them into a tupperware container along with a packet of yeast...make several at a time...then all you have to do is put the liquids and fat into the machine, add the premeasured mix, the yeast, turn it on, adjust the flour, and Voila! Almost instant bread.

I was wondering about that also. To do rolls, I have to proof it first in the machine then continue the process for rolls. How do you do something as delicate as croissants?

There was a small book which came with the bread machine. For croissants you make the dough and leave it. They are best puting in the oven later but will work in the bread server.
I haven't mastered any of these cake mixtures yet ! Had a few disaters.

Life is what you make of it...so please read the instructions carefully.

                    Ingredients

                    1kg flour
                    sugar
                    1egg
                    salt
                    Dried skimmed milk and water
                    Large nob of unsalted butter

I mix it in the Bread Mixer

                    To Cook...

Put the dough in the fridge for an hour and then fold it top to bottom with your hands.
                    •about 20 minutes.
                    Shape it.
•about 20 minutes. •Now bake it for about 20 minutes till golden brown.

Tip,,, dough is best left in the fridge,,,, I usually leave mine overnight. It doesn't take long to brown it in the morning. A sprinkle of granulated sugar.
