  • Hawaii Five-O 2.0 - Take Two!

Wow, I can't believe it's already been a year since the news broke of a "sequel" of sorts to Hawaii Five-O. Well, that idea seems to have died a quiet death.

Until news comes today of yet another attempt to revive the show. (It's true - there are absolutely no new ideas left in Hollywood, so they have to keep going back for remakes...)

This time, apparently CBS has ordered a pilot shot, which seems to be more of a commitment than they gave the last go-round. This version will be produced by the co-creators of "Fringe", who also wrote this year's Star Trek movie as well as both Transformers movies. It'll also be co-written by the producer of "CSI: NY".

I hope it's done in puppetry, like those Japanese serials of the 60s.
McGarrett's hair would be very solid.

Well this is the last season of Lost so maybe the actors from that series can make it over to Hawaii Five-O.

I highly doubt that any of the actors from LOST will move on to Hawaii Five-0.

However the possible arrival of a new series such as Five-0 will be good news for a lot of the local behind the scenes people and firms who currently work on LOST and other productions. A major network TV series in Hawaii will keep the Diamond Head studio rented and hopefully put more tax revenue into the state.

Film and TV productions arriving in Hawaii from November onward will probably have a harder time getting logistics worked out as nearly all the personnel in the present Hawaii State Film office will be let go due to the budget crunch.
        I'm still here. Are you?

Before everyone here gets too excited over a new Hawaii Five-0, keep in mind..... there is the possiblity that filming may take place elsewhere. All depends on the $$$$.

          http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/ar...roject-revived

Dawson cautioned against people assuming the project will be filmed here, since decisions to base the pilot in Hawaii will be based on financial considerations. Recently the producers of "A Perfect Getaway" used Puerto Rico as a backdrop for a movie that supposedly took place in Hawaii.

If the film office is, in fact, closed next month that'll just about be the death of the industry in Hawaii. How absurd for Hawaii Five-0 to be shot anywhere but Hawaii. The reality is...it could easily happen. Whatta black eye for Hawaii, both it's reputation and it's economy.

I really loathe that my tax dollars are paying for state employees who make idiotic, ignorant decisions even when presented with the facts. Don't even get me started...

This revival has been talked about for over a year, nothing can top the original. What I would like to see revived is "Magnum PI", but as a series of 2 hour tv movies similiar to what James Garner did with his "Rockford Files" movies during the 1990s. People might say Selleck is too old or whatever but Garner is older than Selleck and he did a great job I thought. If not do a big budget Magnum movie in the theaters with Selleck and the gang.

But I digress, I always thought actor Willem Dafoe looked like he could play Jack Lord in just about anything and would be the perfect age for this if they wanted to cast someone with a sort of big Hollywood name.

I loved Hawaii 5-0 and when my friend here in Liverpool heard that I was going to work there for a while, he begged me to bring him back a cap and a Hawaii 5-0 T shirt. Sadly, I couldn't find them.

Yet I agree ! where else should the new series be shot except in Hawaii ?

I totally agree. Selleck is doing just fine in his "Jesse Stone" series, and who can imagine anyone else in the Magnum role?

Anyway, I hope the Hawaii-Five-O revival revitalizes Hawaii's film industry.

I can see Selleck being McGarrett ... with or without the 'stache.

The only way that can happen is if the film office is left intact with the existing employees who know how to expedite...everything! The learning curve is long and tough for new HFO employees. The skills of the film office cannot be assumed by general state employees who have no knowledge of the industry and probably haven't even been on a set. Production personnel don't have the knowledge or time to deal with all the monumental details that are handled by the film office...details that can make, break or prevent a shoot. Even furloughing will be tough but it sure beats lay-offs. If film office employees do end up being furloughed I surely hope the office is kept open 5 days a week and the employees furlough days rotated so someone (or two!) is always available.

When a production such as Five-0 starts into the early stages of pre-production, the FIRST call a producer makes is to the location state's film office. This office is a lifeline for all productions. No film office = no industry.

Tutusue is 100% correct. If you would like to continue to see movies and television series filmed in Hawaii, then you need to support the film office, or else our film industry is doomed.

No 'defensible rationale' for plan to cut film office, lawmakers say
                            Lawmakers Criticize Film Office Cuts

I attended the Sept. 3 hearing where Jean Higgins, co-exec. producer of "Lost", explicitly testified not only to the need for a film office but also to the economic ramifications to the state should the film office close and the duties divvied up among "generalists".

If Five-0 is eventually green-lighted (green-lit?!!) and Hawaii doesn't have an assigned film office staffed with specialists there is no way our state can service the needs of that production.

Then, multiply that by all the other productions that would like to shoot in Hawaii but can't...because there is no dedicated film office.

                            Scary...

Hawaii Five-O would not be Five-O if its filmed anywhere else other than the islands itself. Might as well just call it Five-O

If they do film in Hawaii they gotta show the HILARIOUS action car scenes where an intense moment when McGarrett is in Waikiki driving along Ala Wai, next shot you see the car passing the fountain followed the next camera action shot is in Downtown Honolulu.
