Re: Tiger Woods injured in car accident!

Men and women have been infidelitous since as long as we have had history.
You would think that by now we would have gotten over it.

And if you are a celebrity, a famous person or politician, does that instantly make you "more human than human?"

I find this fascination with celebrity infidelity a bit archaic, and way immature.

Accenture is terminating its relationship with Tiger altogether, saying the golfer is "no longer the right representative" for the global consulting and outsourcing firm.

Nike has continued to stand by Tiger. But you have to wonder if that will continue to be the case if the company's bottom line and image begins to be impacted in a negative manner. I don't care how big a fan anyone may be of Tiger Woods as a golfer. Will women want to wear the TW logo cap? Will image conscious men want to wear the Nike logo caps and polo shirts that have been so closely associated with Tiger for over a decade?
I understand what you're saying, but I don't get why it should matter it in bigger picture. Seriously? "Better not get my husband a Gillette razor- he might cheat on me!" I know Gillette thinks people will think they support infidelity, but this is so freaking stupid. I will always wear Nike shoes because they fit my feet the best. I don't care if Charles Manson is their spokesman. And I will always use my Gillette razor b/c I like it.

It's time for us to take back the world and stop this crap. I mean it. From Kramer to Bill Clinton to Tiger Woods. Just let people make their mistakes and deal with them privately, then move on. Quit gawking and gaping with your mouths hanging open, panting for more, pointing fingers and acting so f-ing self-righteous, then going home and ordering PPV porn. Now Tiger's taking his break from golf mostly, I think, because people can't shut the hell up. That's great. That sport has now lost its best player because of GOSSIP.

Can't think of anything creative this time

Some bloggers have speculated that Tiger may be sexually addicted. I suppose that could be true. But it has to be admitted that it is all too easy for anyone guilty of unfaithfulness to call their behavior an "addiction" and use that as a convenient excuse and a cop-out.

Well, at the risk of being labeled as "small-minded" or "hopelessly old-fashioned," I will say that the foundation of true love has to be trust. Hiding things from your spouse is a classic sign of distrust. And if the trust ain't there in a marriage, then the "love" that the spouses think they feel for each other may in reality be an attachment resting on a very shaky base of co-dependency.

I've gone through a failed marriage before, as well as being with my current wife for a very happy and successful 13 years this past November. So my observations are based on actual experience, FWIW. Been there, done that.

With all due respect, SG, I doubt that gossip is the cause of Tiger's decision to take a break from golf.

I definitely don't think Gillette supports adultery, but I do believe that the companies who have not severed ties with Tiger Woods or completely maintained those ties believe that "adultery is no big deal". As someone who has once worked in the matrimonial law industry (never again), I wish I could have received a dollar for every time I heard that very phrase from the mouths of attorneys. I believe it's symptomatic of a societal change from the world of our parents and grandparents.

While I'm against the circus-like atmosphere of celebrity journalism and hope that Tiger's family can get out of the limelight and recover from this painful, exposing incident, I believe adultery should remain a taboo activity, one where the person, whether they be celebrity or an every day person, should expect some consequences in some form of societal ostracization.

In agreement with you there 100% (and maybe more). Some people don't trust themselves, which makes it tough to trust others - or be capable of earning trust.

                      Stop.

If you're going to label someone as lacking understanding, at least be honest enough to do it without resorting to editing and taking a sentence (in this case, a partial sentence) out of context.

                      You conveniently edited out:

Yes, I recognize that there are people who, in fact, suffer from sexual addiction. For some people, it can be very real.

Just as there are people with real sexual addictions, there are some others who will fake it. Why? As an easy avenue to get sympathy from the person(s) who discovered the infidelity and were hurt by it. To buy some time for themselves while going through treatment/rehab for their "addiction." To claim it as a mitigating circumstance in a divorce proceeding.

A fake cast isn't the only way to evoke undeserved sympathy.

FM - I have no desire to play your weird misinterpretation games. I've tried being nice, I've tried publicly agreeing with you, I've tried discussion - but you still twist, tangle and tweak posts into some sort of ongoing argument. Other people have pointed this out as well, repeatedly.

Whatever your game is - I have no interest in being a part of it. You've gone beyond picking out posts and pouncing on them in bits and pieces; now you even grab excerpts of your own posts, just to keep it going.

Methinks YOU have an addiction to making argument where none needs exist. Play nice for once, why don'cha?

You were the one who took a partial quote I made about some people claiming a sexual addiction to use as a cop-out and said (and I'll use your complete sentence here):

So now.... that I wanted to re-iterate my full quote and to clarify that I did acknowledge the existence of sexual addiction..... you object to that? You're going to take me to task simply for clarifying my statements?

We have a different POV on the matter. Can't we simply agree to disagree? Why go out of your way to characterize someone as not being nice simply because of a difference of opinion?

Frankie, a few of us have been through this with you before. This is not just between You and Leo, at last count there were half-a dozen of us who perceived your responses as... aggressive.

From my POV it seems you like to argue and win. Nothing so unusual about that, it matches about half the population of Hawai`i Nei, but somehow, because your obvious intelligence I figure you're beyond that. Unless you are an attorney or former attorney... old habits die hard, so it's said.

You are an obvious asset here, on HT, yet you have some tendencies in your communications which, at least to some of us, seem manipulative, controlling, baiting, etc., and it doesn't make this a 'better place.'

I'm not going to accuse you of personality defects or the like, but I recommend a good look in the mirror. Oh yes, I've looked, deep and dark, at me, and I know I am not flawless - far from it - so don't use that one on me.

Maybe a good start would be to just LISTEN to what some of us are telling you; see if the shoe fits, if you are able to be that honestly introspective.

I don't think anyone wants apologies or 'true confessions,' just strive to be the best person you can be here. We are a community, not a war zone. There is NOTHING to be gained by winning pointless arguments with your fellow HTer's. Except maybe ego points.

Do you need ego points, Frankie? I think your incisive information gathering is adequate to gain you plenty, you don't have to stoop to a strategy of incite, challenge and overcome.

Notice: this is just my opinion. If you want to go off on a rant and attack my premises, 'prove' me wrong by your logic, be my guest. I will not respond. I no longer take your bait.

I'd like to see a better, smarter Frankie (just as much as I want to see a better smarter me!). I'm sure there are those here who believe you walk on water, and there are others here who see you differently.

How do you WANT to be seen? And how do you want to be remembered?

Just my opinion, Frankie; nothing personal.
