Re: Clear (formerly known as Clearwire)

I beg to differ. The speed tests I've seen on LTE in Sweden are 20-30mbps. Although the theoretical speeds are 100mbps they say 50mbps is more realistic. Verizon is rolling out LTE here next year but I'm not sure what speeds they will offer.

The HSDPA+ used in Europe offer theoretical speeds of 42mbps but in real life I've seen 12-20mbps. That is better than the so called 4G WiMax. Although WiMax do say they can offer faster speeds in the future but I wouldn't call it 4G.

Where are you getting those speeds with Clear? We have Clear in 3 locations in Honolulu and I haven't seen anything faster than 4mbps, with full signal.

      !
just found out that if you get Mobile by itself it caps you at 6Mbps max. If you get the Home by itself or bundled with Mobile, then both are unlimited meaning no cap on speed.

Also I saw that if you order online you can get the special bundle for $50/month instead of $55

It just rolled out this week in Sweden. Those test were sitting on the tower with no one on it. I guarantee you won't see 50Mbps with a normal amount of people using it. Let alone 20-30 when it saturates.

Any wireless technology high speed data will see significant loses when the normal amount of people start using it. There are no "Real world" test with LTE because no one is really using it yet. All the numbers you usually see are "peak". HSDPA+ is not widely used yet either. there are some countries that have rolled it out, but where have you seen 20 in real life?

I saw it in Waikiki outside. I also just saw 5Mbps at the Blaisdell this weekend from a Clear vendor. They literally turned the model 120 degrees and it went from 3Mbps to 4.9, hence the sensitivity. Also sensitivity and strength can be different.
