Then on Christmas Day I got to Safeway 30 minutes before closing.
I picked up some wine where the shelf tag stated $5.98, $5.38 each for carrier of 6. I was in a LONG express line, it was closing time.

When I got the total it was much more than I expected, so I checked the receipt. I had been charged the regular price of $9.99 each!

I hated holding up the long line of people in EXPRESS.... but it was the only option, as the refund had to be verified and checked and refunded from THAT register.

The womanager did the best she could to hasten the process, checking the listed price on the shelf, logging on, refunding me cash. I commend her. But it was a mistake that shouldn't have been made. Probably the computer price was updated for this item before the store closed.

Watch your receipts; it's overcharge season!

Went to Longs today and got overcharged again. Luckily I caught it before I swiped my card so they didn't have to go through quite as much to correct it.

Craig, I can’t believe you revealed this on a public forum! Ahahahaha. Good thing 99% of HT has no idea what it’s used for.

Go look at a price sticker on any Long's Drugs product at the top you'll see a alpha code let's say on a bottle of shampoo. On that sticker you may see something like N-S-L. The N corresponds to 0 (zero), S = 7 and L = 5 or $0.75 (75-cents) That's a price Longs cannot sell below as it's their break even cost. It's a fast way of telling how much Longs is charging more than what the product cost them to buy. Kinda like Wholesale vs retail.

CHARLSTON has been their pricing code for as long as I can remember...back to the 60's.

Good man, Craig. There's too many secrets in the world already. Us knowing this won't hurt Long's but will give us an idea of how expensive it is to run a retail operation.

                      Re: Longs Overcharging

A few days ago I went to CVS to fill a prescription. I don't have any drug coverage other than the VA and I was too lazy to go there. CVS wanted $147.46 for this antibiotic so I deceide to check out CostCo. I purchased it from CostCo since their price was $46.00. The pharmacist there said that CVS is notorious for their mark ups on drugs.

Maybe this article can help in cutting cost at CVS.

I get most of my prescriptions at Longs Bishop St. and have never had a problem with pricing. In fact, one of mine used to cost me $7 as a co-pay and now its only $3.65. and they deliver to me!

Takes some work, doesn't it?! I've watched a couple of episodes of Extreme Couponing and it's a full time job!

What few prescriptions I have are not covered by Medicare so I've had to do a lot of research. CVS is always the most expensive.
