Okay, let the banks, auto makers, etal fail if you want 50% unemployment and anarchy. To me, that is not an option. In my opinion, Obama is not spending enough money to get us out of the recession, nee depression. Perhaps Bob, you would feel differently if you were the one who was losing his job.

What we need is some modicum of regulation and oversight over the "too big to fail" businesses that has been lacking beginning with the Reagan Administration and since (yes, including Clinton). I recommend that if you deal with one of the large banks that you move your business to one of the small locally owned banks.

I can understand that you feel stressed, most of us are. But don't let that stress consume your life. They are joyful opportunities for all of us in the simplest things in life. I will find happiness even if I have to go back and live in that 10 x 20 fale in Tonga. Life is all relative.

Ah, so that fear should encourage me to stock up on TP, eh? I do as well without, thank you. Even better without the hysteria and angst of reports of a falling sky or the wolf allegedly devouring my sheep (Note: I don't have any sheep).

Fear can be good, but only for those not consumed by it.
May I always be found beneath your contempt.

Bob, I am having trouble with your logic here. First you say that poorly run businesses should not be bailed out, they should go bankrupt. But when a business like JAL MIGHT file for bankruptcy, you over react! I guess I'm toopid, because I don't get it.

There's a couple of things at work here. First, it's the CEO's that orchestrated the banking system failures. Giving free money to thieves won't stop them from continually ransacking us. I hear Obama is prepping a 2nd bailout package, after billions were stolen and unaccounted for in the 1st package. His rant about being upset is just smoke and mirrors. Nothing really is being done about it.

Spending more borrowed $ to get out of debt is pure insanity. It's like throwing gasoline to put out the fire. The solution is in cutting government spending, which is a temporary solution at best.

You're probably right about how I might feel if the shoe was on the other foot. But fiscal policy and emotions don't mix well.

What we need is some modicum of regulation and oversight over the "too big to fail" businesses that has been lacking beginning with the Reagan Administration and since (yes, including Clinton). I've been maintaining that Capital Hill is run by the global elite, not the politicians per se. But no matter how powerful they may be, they aren't as powerful as "we the people". We just need to spread the word and wise up.

Everyone should be stressed by what's going on. Stress is a natural reaction geared for preservation. Salmoned can deal with using leaves and newspaper when he's on the pot, but that's more stressful than standing in line at Costcos for that super-duper pack of deluxe Charmin.

Well, I'm not really consumed by it, but I am pre-occupied. There's a difference between heeding warnings and warning others, and panicking. I mean, if you're in the water with a great white shark, taking your time getting out is idiotic. Hauling *ss is prudent.

Stocking up for an approaching hurricane isn't panic. It's called being smart.

Oh, I didn't know that. Didn't see it in the "How to be a Fundamentalist Christian" guide. Do you forgive me?

You don't own shares in JAL do you? No, but I do have stock in Charmin... Want some?

Allowing poorly managed businesses to fail and allowing other well-managed businesses take over is "Capitalism". Bailing them out with Federal funds and allowing the government to take them over and run our business and our lives is "Socialism". Capitalism works (if you let it), socialism does not.

I'm sure JAL employees reacted much worse. Besides, this is a forum. I'm allowed to use drama.

According to Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs, food shelter and clothing have a higher priority than squeezably soft toilet paper.

So let JAL file for bankruptcy because it is poorly run and let some other well managed business take over. Using your logic, this should be what you want! Why all the angst over JAL?

Capitalism works (if you let it), socialism does not.
Don't tell that to the Germans, French, Canadians, English, and Danes, all of whom have a higher standard of living than the US. Have you ever been to one of those countries Bob to see how the other Socialist half lives? Have you ever been to Mississippi to see how that half lives? What about Haiti? I've been to all of them. It is a real eye opener.

this is a forum. I'm allowed to use drama.
Drama is fine, but logic makes more sense.

Bob, the matapule has tried, but you are going to have to find your own path to enlightenment. For example, the alcoholic has to recognize that he is an alcoholic before he can ever begin to recover. Running around chasing your tail is being active but hardly productive.

                  Bob, blessed be.

Too bad there isn't a "System Restore" point for this mess.

Craig, you surprise me - isn't that the "rapture" of which you occasionally speak?

Well - I guess it won't be "restored" for some of us, now that I think about it...

                        Matapule,

I think you're being a little too serious between the ears. Need to let your hair down a little. If I didn't enjoy participating on this forum, I'd be tormenting people on another.

Btw, I guess the Germans, French, Canadians, English, and Danes must hate themselves. They keep coming over here for medical treatment.

And, ask the Canadians how their relative's organs are donated without anyone's consent. I'd hate to be in a coma in Canada.

No I'm thinking of restoring history to a point in time when things were better...you know...the good old days!
