  • Ice Station Zebra

Was channel surfing today and I came across TCM that today is showing movies based on Alistair MacLean's novels. Lucky I tuned in before Ice Station Zebra started. Even though I got the DVD for this movie I decided to drop what I am doing and watched the entire movie.

While I liked the movie for various reasons I never thought about a certain plot hole that develops towards the end of the movie that concerns the satellite and the film but it might turn out it is not a plot hole after all but rather a plot twist.

Isn't Ice Station Zebra the movie that Howard Hughes obsessively watched over and over and over again while he was living in seclusion?

Supposedly on a continuous loop, watching it over 150 times.

Not to hijack the thread, BUT, I read the biography of Hughes that was taken from his trash piles of scribbled notes in his later years. Some author found all these boxes one day after Hughes died. Turns out it was page after page of handwritten notes about his whole life.

Purchased Ice Station Zebra from iTunes early in 2020. While I have seen it a couple of times since I purchased it, tonight (4/24/20) was the first time I have seen it on one sitting and with the captions turned on.

I was kind of wondering what the character played by Ernest Borgnine said when he first saw Patrick McGoohan's character in the sub. I couldn't make heads or tails of that line until the close captioning said "David".
