This one's a little different. The store is doing fine. It appears the landlord got a better offer. So what's being planned? That's a pretty big parcel. A big box store? Who? More retail? AMC's got a lot of space now that they opened the ewa wing. They have two largeish areas opening up. Housing? Doesn't seem like the best location. At least not for high-end development, but would probably work OK for "workforce" housing.

"Kmart to close Waikele store and 63 others"....

Good bye KMart in Waikele. Actually, KMart stores in general have turned into one of my least favorite places to shop, although they are occasionally handy as a backup in case I can't find what I want somewhere else. Their products and pricing are OK, but I often find the employees at KMart(s) are, shall I just say "less than enthusiastic and under trained", which can be a turn off to shoppers that have other choices.

Foodland closed a while ago, but moved to a new location and re-opened a couple of weeks ago as Foodland Farms beneath Nordstrom in the new Ewa wing. It's much more than a grocery store, though. There's a lot of freshly prepared food stations, including a pizzeria, shave ice, ice cream, poke, grill, and chicken stations (rotisserie and fried), a bakery (including freshly made doughnuts), and their own Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, HI Steaks (a plate lunch place, which always seems to have long lines), a wine and craft beer bar, and much, much more. There's lots of seating and it's right across the new Shirokiya Japan Village Walk (another original tenant that moved to the Ewa wing).

"Hawaii Pacific University spokesman Stephen Ward said the closures had to do with issues in the restaurants’ respective companies... The property management company and its broker, Colliers International, has already received inquiries about the two waterfront spaces from established businesses both in and outside of Hawaii, according to Brooke Carroll, vice president of advancement at HPU."

Biersch had prime real estate, what a gorgeous view from the patio, and fun to sit so close to yachts so huge and gorgeous that I'll likely never vacay on one.

Their food? LOL hope the alcoholics I know were right about "the wings" cuz my chicken and green beans were both dry and tough! Sheesh, classy place? I expected but soon was disillusioned by the place.

Those photos make them easily identified. They didn't steal from the rich. They stole from the working class. This only hurts their neighborhood with closing businesses.
