Post Re: The March to Socialism

    The march 'towards' Socialism?!

Let's see... public tax money supporting Insurance/Bank/Automotive Companies because of their greed or stupid business actions.
Check. In a true capitalist democracy they should've failed and the culprits for that failure shouldn't be able to hide 'private' assets from those they 'stole' from or hurt due to their actions.

Trying to create a 'different' health care system to combat the greed and stupid business actions of health insurance companies? I guess so?

So Democratic Capitalism in it's truest form would be...
Do whatever you can to get yours and screw your neighbor?
    How wonderful.
Life is either an adventure... or you're not doing it right!!!

I think you're a bit misinformed and a victim of Leftist propaganda. Profit margins for insurance companies aren't nearly as high as "they" want you to think. The real culprit is the need for tort reform. The health insurance companies in Hawaii are doing fairly well, but they're the exception. If you opened up the competition to mainland providers, like what Charles Djou is suggesting, then you're bound to see prices go down.

It's not the greedy insurance companies. It's everyone else that's tacking on ridiculous fees and costs. Ever ask what the retail price of your medication is? Try it one day, and compare it to what you're paying into your insurance plan.

No, the bill the House is voting on today is not everything I'd like it to be. But it is something; it includes many steps I'd like to see enacted. It is progress, something sorely lacking on this front for far too many decades.

Is it "selling out" to be supportive of something that is short of everything one would like it to be?

Equal rights for women weren't completed by granting them the right to vote in 1920. Full equality for African-Americans didn't come into existence immediately with the Emancipation Proclamation, nor with the Voting Rights Act of 1964.

By your logic, support of these steps would have been "selling out," and it would have been better not to act at all.

Default The March to Socialism - hup two, three, four!

The Obama admin. has twarted the latest efforts to destroy his presidency with the HC bill's success this morning and will soon be able to focus on other important issues. It's made it thru the toughest part of the road today having been passed by the House. Should be clear sailing now.
Of course the obstructionista's have their silly plans of a repeal and whatever else they can pull out of their nasty little bags-o-failure for this country.

Funny --- timkona would often comment on "the politics of NO" in this country; I didn't realize how easily that label would apply to the GOP.

Once again, people who do not posses a uterus have passed legislation on the backs of those of us who do. Once again, women's rights ave been kicked to the curb so that a bill can get passed. I'm so disappointed in my politicians and especially in the president. He & the representatives have lost all of my support. FOREVER.

What would you have had him do, hand over the country to the cons over this one last make-or-break sticking point that can be dealt with later? HC had to succeed simply for the kamikaze tactics of the ultra-partisan opposition in their blood lust to destroy Obama. Now things can move forward with a strong prez.

i completely understand your bitter disappointment, anapuni--really i do. it sticks in my craw. it sucks that reproductive rights are so easily given away as trade for things like better access to health care. i'm glad the health care reform bill passed, but like you, i am disgusted people like stupak held enough sway that the agreement HCR would not be used as commentary on reproductive rights was tossed into the toilet.

yet if we don't support obama, who will we feminist pro-choice liberals have? instead of abandoning them completely, we need to pressure them to move forward--and repeal hyde.

Where did I leave my hat? It might taste okay with ketchup. The next stumbling block is the us supreme ct, the corporate stooges who will declare health care unconstitutional. Try to get sick in Canada or France or Mexico, things will be much easier for you.

NARAL's press release nicely summarizes the dilemma and internal discord felt by those of us who support the right to choose, with their statement of "We assessed the health-reform package ... and determined that, because of the egregious abortion-coverage restrictions, we could not endorse this bill. But, because the measure has other very positive provisions for reproductive health, we couldn't in good conscience call for the bill's outright defeat and thus deny millions of American women and men the promise of better—although imperfect—access to health-care services that are important to our pro-choice values."
