  • Kailua Newspaper Man

Anyone live in Kailua? Every morning on the way to work at the intersection by Castle Hospital from the Waimanalo side, I see the newspaper man. He’s the skinny, elderly, grizzled, local guy with the limp. I see him every morning on the way to work and now I notice he’s out there all day on the weekends too. In the hot sun. All day. He’s always polite, smiles and isn’t pushy.

I just realized that he and his girlfriend / wife are homeless. I feel really bad for the guy as I think he is trying to work to earn some money and not be a leech. He stand there for hours in the sun. Makes me sad, especially when you see the guy tries to have a positive attitude and smiles once in a while.
I give him a dollar for a paper whenever I see him and once in a while, I’ll give him a $5.

If you live Kailua and see him, think about buying a paper from him. He’s obviously down and out but not given up and still trying with a good attitude.

Nice guy. Lives in a van at the park.

He's one of the few guys assured of a job when the papers merge.
