  • Alice in Wonderland

Dark. Very Dark. Damn near inappropriate for an 8 yo girl.

Burton has pidgeonholed himself into this gothic, black corner that is making all of his movies look and feel just like any other of his movies.

Depp, as usual, carries the show. The Mad Hatter was mad, without invoking a sense of evil or scariness. There must be a hundred better ways to have fun with tweedle dee and tweedle dum. March Hare looked like that tweeker down at the harbor that we always see at 4 am on our way to go fishing. No chess game, but that might have seemed too much like the first Harry Potter. All the fakey body parts were an obvious poke at the "plastic surgery" crowd. They always crack me up anyway.

All in all, wait for the rental.

Probably righteo, Tim, but for Mom, Dad, and a 6-teener, we had a FRABJOUS night!!
Can't think of an actor/ess who was off cue (except the white queen was a bit too 'posed' or 'posied' or some such.
This wasn't the straight Alice, but a combo/mishmash of the 2(TYWO) Alicebooks with some extras thrown in for jabberwocky.

REAL 3D was fun,,, we even FLINCHED!!! when certain items came our way. Oh it was FUN! (and I'm over 60!!!).

    The downside:
Couldn't always hear the dialogue. Some things happened SOO)OO) fast we couldn't see what happened!!! Not geared for oldsters.... But... still we enjoyed it.

Recycle your 3D glasses, keep costs down.

Remember: it is better to beloved than it is to be feared.

And, as long as you know why a RAVEN is like a WRITING DESK, you need no fear.

Never heard the punchline. Why is a raven like a writing desk?

Guy who did the NPR review the other day said something like "because they both have inky quills . . ." which didn't make total sense to me.

Because you cannot ride either of them like a bicycle.

If you read the original Lewis Carroll Alice In Wonderland, you will know that there is no answer. But if you can't be bothered with that, here is an explanation for you.
