Yesterday I was enjoying the fading south-shore swell at White Plains (Kalealoa) when I saw a truck (like these photos) in the parking lot. I later learned that it's a Pinzgauer 6x6. It looked older but clean with new tires and a new (restored?) fabric enclosure. It had a Swiss sticker on the back bumper but no other markings. I don't specifically remember the license plate but I think it was a regular Hawaii one-- a vanity plate would have stuck in my mind.
I think the driver was one of the many stand-up paddleboarders on the outside swells that morning, and the truck was big enough to hold the entire board inside with room left over for a studio apartment. It might not have good gas mileage but it seems like a great surfin' safari vehicle that'll never get stuck off-road ever again. He'll also never be homeless.
Has anyone seen it around the island? Any idea if it's used for a business or marketing or "just" another enthusiast's collectible vehicle?
