I've got a cherry tree (I think) in my courtyard, but the cherries aren't like any cherries I've seen before. For lack of a better description, they've got ribs and look like teeny tiny little red pumpkins. Anybody know what these are? :

Re: What is this?
Yep, that's what they are.
In Florida they're not trained up into trees though, they're kept cut down and used as hedges.

Re: What is this?
Wow, got my answer in less than an hour. HT rocks! Thanks, Mike and Peshkwe!
I got a chuckle from seeing that the Advertiser article echoed my description of them as looking like little pumpkins. (I mean the cherries, not Mike and Peshkwe.)
I can also tell you that birds love the Surinam cherries. Whether in the tree or on the ground, I've got at least 10 or 12 birds at any given time.
If anyone wants any of these cherries, let me know. I've got zillions of 'em..
.
That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

They are delicioso, healthy, prolific --- but:
Keep the invasive Glaber ants away! They will invade the trunk root and kill the tree.

That would be Eugenia uniflora. Fruit is high in vitamin C and aphrodisiac for old farts like LikaNui and matapule. How matapule know these things? In Tonga, mo bettah Cherries!Peace, Love, and Local Grindz
