Anyone here go/have gone caving? I've recently become addicted to reading caver's trip reports about their explorations and they are just fascinating. I know there are several caves in Hawaii and was curious if anybody had surveyed them or bottomed them.

Depends on your definition of caving. I have gone down into several caves, but they were always the more commercial type. The lava tubes near Hana are pretty cool. They give you a flashlight and off you go. The tube is huge and the hike is fairly easy - would hate to lose the flashlight though. I've explored other little caves over that way too. But I'd describe them more as baby caves (outcrops?) formed by the lava. I've also been to several caves in the upstate NY area. These were guided tours. None have been the gear and pick axe type of thing. I'd be too worried about the bats and rats
