Re: Ancient History/KGU Question
I lived near Detroit, Michigan in the 1960's. From there, I managed to "DX" signals from the following Hawai'i radio stations:
KORL (often), KGU, KAIM (often), KHVH (often), KHAI, KZOO, KNDI.
"Often" simply means at least a couple times per year. This pretty much stopped around 1966.
Parked near Kane'ohe in September 2008, not long after sundown and using an ordinary car radio, I was sitting on 740-AM and, for three or four minutes, a station briefly faded in and faded out, playing adult standards. There was not possibly anything that fit this format on 740, other than 50,000 watt CHWO in Toronto. OK...there was also a 250-watt station in Boston [Cambridge] but somehow I don't think that was it.
