  • Harsh Penalty for USC Football

I'm not a fan of USC football. But, the penalty handed down by the NCAA against USC was a bit harsh. It was basically one guy, Reggie Bush who got paid. Will USC take their anger from the penalty against UH at the home opener?

That was just way over the top, totally unjustified.

USC isn't above the NCAA regulations. What was the school's defense? The coaches didn't know? The school didn't know? Lame. If the NCAA accepted that, then that excuse would be employed every time.

You think not playing in a bowl game is too harsh? Lemme tell ya'. If anyone connected with USC (even boosters) are caught breaking the rules again, then the death penalty should be imposed. Yup, just like what happened to SMU 23 years ago.

LA needs a pro football team.

Play by the rules. Simple as that.

They did, it was USC up until now

On the real, I think the NCAA is going to start cleaning house--at least, I hope they do after being this harsh to USC. I'm guessing that this is a warning shot to every university, and USC was made as an example. I'd surmise that similar violations are more common than we think.

This penalty is probably the last show of power by the NCAA because of the super conferences created by the major universities.

They are very fortunate to even be able to do that. The NCAA’s original penalty banned USC from playing the home opener against UH. Thanks to a sudden change of heart by the committee, a delay in implementing the penalty will allow the game to go on as scheduled.

The NCAA is the hypocrite parents who punish their kids while doing wrongdoings themselves. And then say, "Do as I say and not as I do."

They have one. They're called the St. Louis Rams.

(It's interesting to go back to SoCal and see people in the bars still rooting for the Rams and jeering the Raiders. F the Raiders.)

Re: Harsh Penalty for USC Football

I can only imagine if some outside agency audits NCAA and BCS, scours the records of dozens of colleges over the last few decades, and finds something wrong with a good portion of them.

Sports almanacs would be a little boring reading all those blank entries when they start taking away wins, bowls, championships and career statistics. Might as well get more use out of the asterisk button on the keyboard when they start printing future sports almanacs.

I laugh at the other colleges who think just because USC's title got taken away that they'd be the champions. Uh, no... their team still didn't make it, and OK got smashed. (Auburn had the audacity to think they'd be 04's champs. Ha!) How much Reggie Bush got paid has minimal (if any) impact on the amount of skill and talent on the field that crushed them in the championship. It'd be a little different if a football player was discovered to have been roided up, or a team was made up of cyborgs, which actually affects physical skill.

But since there are so many USC haters out there, I'm waiting for the rest of America to crap all over Ohio State and Notre Dame and every other pathetic overhyped college.

                          Careful there...
If you've ever had your life's sport blood taken away from you, you'd know why they hang on even in the face of everything that sickens them. The LA Rams were such a favored part of good old LA that their theft was and still is, unimaginable. You just couldn't turn your back on the team. We never had a problem with Oakland, even liked them once Al turned them into interesting fun, it was the all-consuming hatred for their disgusting any sport loser counterpart across the bay that the F-word stands for.

The Los Angelenos that respect the sport still love the Rams. When the Raiders came in, they saw their spike of gang violence during the years they were there. Brought the filth, and took it back with them.

And yes, I don't like any S.F. team either.

One could definitely argue that it was tight-fisted Angelino voters who set the stage for the Rams leaving, when they didn't support measures to build a new football stadium to replace the decrepit LA Memorial Coliseum. First, the team moved to Anaheim, sharing the Angel's baseball stadium as an interim solution that would keep them on the west coast. Then when the Anaheim lease expired and LA still couldn't get their act together on building a new stadium, the Rams finally moved on to a city that would (St. Louis).

The St. Louis Post Dispatch recently printed an article talking about the rumors that the Rams could be headed back to LA, should the team's lease at the Edward Jones Dome be terminated. I think such a move is entirely possible,..... but only if a new stadium in LA is already built and ready to be moved in. After the way both the Rams and the Raiders have been burned, no NFL team will ever accept empty promises from that city again.

You mean the home of the 2010 world champions of baseball? And an NFL team that has won 4 Super Bowls since the Raiders won their last title?

                              You're talkin' 'bout those losers?
