Steinbrenner had a sense of humor at the expense of his persona.

        Re: RIP: George Steinbrenner

Finally, someone in the media who had the guts to tell it like it was.

George Steinbrenner: the biggest loser in baseball.

In sharp contrast to his winning organization, George Steinbrenner was a pathetic loser as a human being. A sadistic man who took delight in antagonizing and discarding Yankee legends like Billy Martin, Reggie Jackson, Dave Winfield, and Graig Nettles. And while King George loved taking the lion's share of the credit when the Bronx Bombers had world championship dynasties in the late 1970s and again in the late '90s, the truth is that the foundation for success began each time while Steinbrenner was suspended from baseball and was not able to interfere with team operations.

Steinbrenner was a ruthlessly brilliant decision maker. Guys like Al Davis could learn a few lessons from George Steinbrenner.

He wasn't afraid to spend his money. And he got the Pennants to prove it.
