  • Tom Bosley dies

I LOVED Happy Days when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, sad knowing he is gone now.

Tom Bosley jumped the shark before jumping the shark was cool. He was TV's utility dad, the anti-Bundy.

      Re: Tom Bosley dies

Prior to Happy Days, Bosley had a very long career as a versatile character actor in various TV shows/movies and commercial voice-overs. While Happy Days gave him name recognition, I do think that his acting talent has become underrated as a result. The man was capable of doing much more than playing the straight man to whatever antics were being cooked up by Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, and Scott Baio.

Gee, Billingsley and now Bosley. If one believes in the theory of celebrities dying in threes, you gotta wonder which TV parent might be next.

How far back are we going? Does Michael Gross & Meredith Baxter Birney count?

            Is John Astin still alive?

Ron Howard had two of the coolest tv dads ever I think!!

Back to Bosley the last role I saw him in was the recent Jennifer Lopez film that co-starred Alex O'Laughlin from Hawaii 5-0. Bosley was hooked up with and eventually married Linda Lavin, whom I hadn't seen in many years. She just turned 73!!

Believe Sada Thompson is still alive (Family).

Bonnie Franklin, Betty Garrett (stepmom to Laverne DeFazio)

Not known as a tv father really, but I'm guessing Harry Morgan (Dragnet/Mash) at age 95 is the oldest most prominent tv actor still living?

Charlotte Rae, you could argue was a tv mom to a large cast on Facts of Life is still living.

Actually, Bosley was the third. Benoit Mandelbrot died the day before Billingsley. Not a TV parent, but when people cite the "three celebrities" trend, they don't say it has to be celebrities famed in the same field (or for the same types of roles).

                      Re: Tom Bosley dies

I watched Happy Days a lot during its heyday!

Doesn't everyone wished or wanted to at least know a cool dad like Mr. C?

Tom Bosley was known MORE in the TV Circuit vs. Motion Pictures....

Caught him in the very recent Back Up Plan starring Jennifer Lopez. He looked sooooooo different and not seeing his name in the opening credits you would not realize that was him! But.... he was nicely paired w/ another 70's TV icon that I watched heavily too also Linda Lavin (Alice)......

                      Glad anyone?

                      R.I.P. Mr. C

Where'd you read that? It's not in Bosley's Wikipedia article.

I mentioned earlier about Bosley and Lavin appearing in the recent Jennifer Lopez flick, I couldnt recall the name, but someone else mentioned it, THE BACKUP PLAN. In the film, their CHARACTERS got married.

Confused here, ru referring to the movie or real life because there is no mention on his IMDB profile
