Did Joe Moore do an April Fool's Day joke when he had to read this story?
Will Joe Moore do an April Fool's Day joke on tonight's broadcast. April Fool's Day and tsunami aren't something to joke about.

Re: Hawaii TV News Anchors and Reporters - Book 4

Dang, I didn't get my channel changed soon enough and there was Marissa (KHON 2) on the 5pm newscast with more of her chit-chat approach to the news.

"Hey, do you have any ideas......."

Hey, yes I do have an idea, don't try to be my friendly neighbor when giving news. I mean, it really bugs me ("really" being another favorite word of hers to insert during the news broadcast).

They need to put her on a morning talk show format, where her casual delivery would be a better fit.
Now run along and play, but don’t get into trouble.

Marissa added tonight, besides her usual descriptive "really bad", the professional newswoman comment "how awful". Joe better stop taking vacation time to be in a play.

Next on is Hawaii808 (delay). They need to send Marissa over there, where chit-chat is part of the program.

Re: Hawaii TV News Anchors and Reporters - Book 4

Rob Young is back on the air at Hawaii News Now.

This from Erika Engle in 2005:
            http://archives.starbulletin.com/200...ess/engle.html

KGMB reporter Rob Young has announced his departure for Centex Destination Properties, the real estate sales company that also lured former KITV anchor Dan Cooke to its Ko Olina luxury homes and villas operations last year.

Young's last day on TV will be tomorrow. He will at first commute to Centex's Waikoloa operations on the Big Island, while bride and former KGMB weather anchor Brit Riedl tends to their infant daughter Calla on Oahu.

News Director Tauna Lange told Young he would always have a job at KGMB.

Blangiardi called Young's departure a loss, "but it sounds like an incredible opportunity for him."
He was out of the media for a while:
            http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburb...-01-story.html

Rob Young, 47, has been appointed Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Covenant Retirement Communities Inc... Young brings more than eight years of sales experience in senior living and luxury home sales to his new position... Young also has six years of VP and sales management experience in the commercial, hospitality, residential and second-home real estate arenas.

Paula Akana gives a professional presentation as a newscaster. But Robert Kekaula? He just does not seem a good fit as a newsman. I'll need to watch a few times to see if I have underestimated his newscaster abilities.

Re: Hawaii TV News Anchors and Reporters - Book 4

I've always been skeptical about sports broadcasters becoming news anchors. Took me a long time to accept Joe Moore as such since he was the sports guy for many years on KGMB and moved over to KHON in the late 1970s to still do sports until elevated to the anchor position. One thing I have rarely seen is Joe doing field reporting of the news.

While Robert's abilities in doing hard news may be doubtful, I think he has good field experience since he has done a lot of feature sports stories. So I dunno.

When you are #3 in the ratings pile, you do anything to try to build your audience to get higher ad rates in the end. That is what it's all about. Ads.

                        =============
I worked with Kekaula many years ago. I hope a few decades of experience has mellowed him out a little.

I recall she once said she like moving away from TV and into newspaper because she does not have not have get all dressed and dolled up. And also to show that is a real journalist. I think that's when TV news was becoming who has the pretty face. (Not that she wasn't BTW).

Paula Akana had that trustworthy Aunty feel when she read the news.
