  • Oahu earthquake - 02/24/11

A shaker today, about 30 seconds long, seemed more vertical, no swaying hanging chains.

    2:12 pm, I estimate about a 3, 3.5 from where I am.

    Anyone else feel it?

    K?

Felt it too at Dillingham Blvd but thought it was due to construction going on nearby.

Today's quake woke me up from a nap, just like it did on Black Sunday.

After the shaking subsided, I held my breath, waiting to see if there would be another power outtage. Didn't happen. Whew!

                    More info on yesterday's earthquake.

Scientists weigh possible causes of small Oahu quake

The cause of a small earthquake off East Oahu yesterday was not immediately known, but scientists suspect it might have been caused by fault lines or the weight of the islands on the earth's crust.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the 3.6-magnitude quake hit at 2:12 p.m. in the Kaiwi Channel. An earlier report, later revised by the USGS, described the quake as at 3.3 magnitude and centered just south of Lanai.
