Do I have to be a member of a 'club' to join a credit union?
Do I have to be a member of a 'club' to join a credit union?
I'm trying to find a local money place to deposit US cheques into. One that will not have godawful banking or transfer fees for when I want to spend some of the money in France.
Re: Do I have to be a member of a 'club' to join a credit union?
It depends on the credit union, you might have a better chance to join up if you try a community based one (like Oahu Community) verus an occuptional based one (Seafarers or Pearl Harbor Shipyard).
Re: Do I have to be a member of a 'club' to join a credit union?
Normally, members of a credit union have to have something in common. Over here on the mainland, there are so many different credit unions that it's almost impossible to find one that you can't become a member of. I used to work for the Texas Credit Union League for several years.
A lot of big corporations will have their own. So will some smaller ones. Some faiths will- I know there's a Catholic Credit Union that's part of the Texas Credit Union League. And some- like Texans Credit Union- you can join simply by residing in the state. If you can find the website for your local Credit Union League, or its equivalent, they should have a website listing all the CUs in your area and the qualifications for joining.
