  • When Exclusive isn't Exclusive

So, HNN runs this story during their 6pm newscast tonight.

They called it exclusive. But it's not.

KHON ran the story with the same guy on July 19th.

Go ahead, keep running those full-page ads.

HNN had this story exclusively for today?!?

It might be an unkind thing to say,.... but really. This guy is an idiot! Anyone who invests your money and guarantees a risk-free 20% rate of return or any other unrealistic promise,.... that in itself should be a red flag. But it's totally inexcusable for the victim to be taken in by this ponzi scheme, when the same conman ripped off his mother 11 years ago!!!

Honestly, what was this guy thinking???

TV news overuse the term breaking news too.

        Re: When Exclusive isn't Exclusive

Since there really isn't "news" anymore in Hawaii journalism-- instead we have press releases from the government and city officials re-written and then aired or published-- the words "breaking" and "exclusive" should be removed or even banned from all island newsrooms.

*Civil Beat and Rob Perez excepted, of course.

Even the close of a newscast is the same, you will see the same weird or cute story with video on Channel 2 and then HNN or Channel 4 runs the same exact thing. I thought when we were growing up we were told to be leaders, not followers.

            Re: When Exclusive isn't Exclusive

I was reading a free copy of Sunday's Staradvertiser, and was shocked at the lack of hard news.

Back in the day, the Sunday edition would contain a well-researched and in-depth report on a very timely and pressing issue.

Instead, on the front page of the local news section, I see a report on the Hawaii 5-O premiere in Waikiki.

As for the hard news stories that were actually there, most were so short in length and so lacking in information, they were more news blips than reports.

The only good thing about the experience was the fact that the paper was given to me and I didn't have to fork over a single cent.

At least it's still good for an occasional crossword puzzle and catching pet excrement, unlike news broadcasts.

[Hey, somebody's gotta start pointing out the positives around here!]
