Somewhere below the Martian surface are almost certainly some caves. Even Mauna Kea has a few on the Hamakua side..Within those ancient lava tubes are probably to be found any life still remaining there. Probably fungal or bacterial in nature. The seasonal venting of large amounts of methane from certain vents hints at possible large amounts of still extant primitive life forms.
