  • ESPN sidelines Hank Williams Jr

Hank Williams Jr.'s high-profile association with pro football is about to come to an end, after his appearance on this morning's Fox and Friends news show.

Williams was being interviewed via telecast when he was asked what he thought about President Obama and House Speaker John Boehner playing golf together recently.

Williams responded: "That'd be like Hitler playing golf with Netanyahu."

The befuddled hosts then listened as Williams went on to discussed the polarized electorate and Obama's role in it, saying: "They're the enemy!"

A host asked: "Who's the enemy?"

Williams then went on to say: "Are you kiddin? Obama! Biden! The three stooges!"
The response was swift. ESPN yanked Hank's "Are You Ready For Some Football" intro from tonight's telecast. This, after some 20 years of performing various versions of the same theme song for Monday Night Football.

In addition to MNF, the country music legend has also performed at numerous Super Bowl festivities. No doubt that will also be coming to an end. I would be most surprised if the NFL doesn't follow suit with ESPN in disassociating itself with Williams.

Drunk? Over medicated? As horrible a president as bush was nobody got away with comparing him to Hitler, without repercussions. Sorry to know he feels this way, file under More Idiots.

I’m not defending Hank or his unfortunate comments, but he’s hardly the first high-profile person in the world to compare Obama with Hitler. Hank has enough fans that someone will keep his gigs rolling. Besides, many critics of Obama’s policies come from the school of thought that frowns upon the very idea of accepting an unemployment check.

Tunnl, this isn't a free speech issue. Ole Hank can say whatever he wants, but if he uses his speech in a way that is offensive to segments of the population, then he places his business associations and partnerships in jeopardy.

I'm sure Hank will continue to tour and to make recordings, pretty much as he has his entire life. But he will no longer have any kind of an official association with pro football. Not surprising, considering that the NFL once yanked a Super Bowl from Arizona because of that state's failure to observe Martin Luther King Day as a holiday.

Hank might also take some time to consider who his "rowdy friends" are in the NFL locker rooms. Didn't he figure that many of them might have been offended by comparing Obama to Hitler? Or maybe the man truly had no clue?

If the latter, then it's just as well. He'll probably be more comfortable rubbing elbows at a Tea Party Convention crowd than at an NFL game.

Hank Williams Jr.'s importance to the football game is about as important as the Let's Get Ready to Rumble announcer guy.
