he is actually lucky to be alive... this stretch of highway north of the airport and before waikoloa is a very dangerous and deadly stretch. it is actuallly a good road...but people insist on driving in excess of 70mph, tailgating and passing. i always drive very defensively on this stretch. you have to watch out for anyone trying to pass you......and watch way ahead for people passing from the other direction. add to this that it is the main route for trucks from kawaihae to kona and then alll the tourists heading to the resorts and locals that are late to work or never really learned how to drive safely, you have a very hazardous stretch of highway.

Yep, supposedly he's in stable condition, but the Star-Advertiser website now says he has head trauma, several broken ribs and a broken left clavicle. They airlifted him from Kona to here this afternoon; he's at Queen's Hospital now.

Wow, some bombshells dropped in this morning’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser...

    Colt eager to play again

    By Stephen Tsai
    POSTED: 01:30 a.m. HST, Jun 14, 2011
“It’s new,” said Colt Brennan, who underwent $20,000 in dental surgery to repair damages to his mouth suffered in a two-vehicle crash in November. The Big Island accident, in which he was a passenger, left Brennan unconscious with injuries to his head, neck, collarbone and ribs.

“If I shaved my head, I’ve got some pretty gnarly scars,” said Brennan, as his smile disappears.

“The truth is, there’s a lady still going through rehab right now,” Brennan said of Dr. Theresa Wang, who was driving a car that was struck by an SUV driven by Brennan’s ex-girlfriend. “It’s weird for me to talk about football.”

We can’t be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans.

Interesting. Under normal circumstances, Colt's fanbase would probably look at the situation (gearing up to play in the United Football League at the age of 28) as depressing news. But when you've considered the physical and personal adversities he's gone through in the last year, then it's almost a miracle that he's poised and ready to play at any level of professional football for the 2011 season.

One more thing: while fans fear for the worst with the ongoing NFL lockout, the situation could turn out to be a blessing for Colt and the UFL players, as far as getting recognition is concerned. Networks wanting to cater to pro football starved fans might very well televise a few UFL games while the NFL is sidelined. The opportunity to showcase one's skills on national TV is nothing to sneeze at. If Colt plays well and impresses the right people, he could get a shot at being a late-blooming NFL QB, like Warren Moon, Kurt Warner, and Doug Flutie. His comment about this opportunity being his "last hurrah" indicates an awareness that a lot is riding on what he does for the Hartford Colonials this year.

The victim in the car that was plowed into by Colt's girlfriend's SUV has finally arrived home after months of rehab.

While Theresa Wang's homecoming at the airport appears cheerful and the couple has expressed their willingness to forgive Shakti Stream, make no mistake. This story is far from over.

Wang has a civil lawsuit pending against Stream. No doubt, the medical/rehab expenses are enormous.... not to mention the fact that Dr. Wang will likely never be able to practice as a physician again.

And the Big Isle's prosecutors office is still deciding whether to file criminal charges against Stream.

    Stay tuned.

Colt Brennan's latest football "comeback" will no doubt generate a few stories in the local media. But the far more compelling comeback is that being staged the victim of the accident, Dr. Theresa Wang.
