  • Blue lights near phone poles?

Driving past Windward Mall I noticed a blue light hanging from the phone wires just past a telephone pole. The object also had other color lights that blinked on occasionally.

Last night, driving through Kaneohe on Kam Hwy and Haiku Road, I noticed these camera-looking objects with blue lights hanging near EVERY phone pole! Most of them were pointed toward oncoming traffic, but the last one on Haiku was angled a few degrees off to the right. They are on both sides of the road.

Any idea what these things are?

NOBODY has ANY idea what they are? Surveillance cameras around the Windward mall area is my guess - my best guess.

I wish it was the grand opening for a local House Of Blue Lights!

Pull up your jeans and we will truck on down
A knocked out joint at the edge of town
A real homecoming for all you cats
You keep a walkin' till you see that welcome mat

Fall in there, loose your lead
At the house, the house of blue lights

We have the time and we'll cut a rug
And if you dig that jive like it should be dug
A real homecoming for all the cats
You keep a walkin' till you see that welcome mat

Drop in there, loose your lead
At the house, the house of blue lights

      Fryers, Broilers, Detroit Barbecue Ribs
You get the hit of the week
When you dig that real fine jive
      With the welcome beat

Fall in there, loose your lead
At the house, the house of blue lights

So, the house of Blue Lights is a real place? That's a real song/poem? Or are you a venturing neophyte songwriter?

Funny, I just found this on Google.

          Blue Light Hawaii
46-056 Kamehameha Hwy Ste 102, Kaneohe, HI 96744

It seems to be in Windward Mall, and may be an acne treatment center.

It's real in verse only. I like Commander Cody's version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmQvwa8QI7U

                http://www.staradvertiser.com/newspr...et_access.html

You could have made it easier... I have a broken arm and it's hard to type (ouch!). You could have mentioned what they are!

                Second thoughts:

Thanks for your half-hearted effort. It was better than nothing, and I got the answer, eventually.

The answer is that they are Wi-Fi boxes from Oceanic/Time Warner, that gives us wireless internet access in their vicinity!

                Now, how hard was that?

You folks DO realize, don't you, that posting URLs to Star-Advertiser stories are USELESS to most of us, unless we have online subscriptions to the paper? That the links don't allow you to read the actual stories themselves? Due to a little thing the paper instituted called a "paywall"? Been in place for quite a while now?

So, yes - what SEVERAL people have suggested would be helpful: post a bit of information as to what the story is saying, rather than just a useless link and a worthlessly-pithy comment. The former takes a touch of effort, the latter just shows laziness.

And ... get offa my lawn! [/grumpyoldmangoesbacktolurkingagain]

Yes, my Lion King (whaooooooooooou!) Royalty is right, whether or not we ack.

I am unsure (and I defend myself - my spear is sharp and strong!) whether it is as you imply -- "laziness" or simply pure "unconsciousness," (which I have in abundance). Myself, I have myriad times chided posters for not including some text, at least titles. 40 lashes is even a gentle sentence.

I acknowledge your gentle reprimand and resolve to continue to forget my own guidelines as long as necessary. After that, we will see.

Most of you won't be able to access this, aND AS THEY DELETE old stuff to make room for new stuff, I can't find it either. SUX!

                              In short:
Oceanic cable has installed a set of transmitters around Windward Mall, and several other O'Ahu areas. (PC Mall, etc.) This is to allow subscribers to access Internet connections, email, etc, when in the vicinity.

Allegedly they are not cameras, but Internet nodes.

Despite their claims, the lights still flash blue, and occasionally flash in other colors as well.

Apologies for my typos - one wing broken - typing one handed.

I hope this absolves my sin - the Lion King shall decide.
