  • Radio is out of touch with reality

Here in Waipahu today, there was a power outage that lasted about 2 hours. I tuned to KSSK expecting to hear about the power outage, but all I heard was music and other news, nothing about the power outage. The Waipahu power outage occurred around 1:10 PM. The power came back on around 2:20 PM and went out again about 10 minutes later. Power was restored around 2:45 PM.

Radio IMHO is out of touch with reality. They can't be bothered to keep listeners posted on important things like power outages. Thus, listeners have no clue as to what caused the power outage. IMHO HECO should start their own radio station to keep us posted on power outages.

Re: Radio is out of touch with reality

You are sooooooooooooooooo correct. The reason why, is 99% of all radio stations on Oahu is on auto-pilot, in radio lingo, it's canned. Why? To save money. All these stations would rather can their day than pay live personnel to be on the air. Thus, radio in Honolulu is out of touch. KSSK during the week has the most live on-air personnel, but on the weekend, welcome auto pilot. Miss the days of real radio from the 60's, 70's and 80's. The 90's brought in the bummers and bye bye disc jockeys. It's only going to get worse.
