  • Fixing frozen pizza (microwave+toaster oven)

I often fix a small 9.2oz Digiorno frozen pizza, traditional crust. I never look at package directions -- no fun that way. I've experimented:
    1. Preheat the toaster oven to bake at 450deg.
    2. Take pizza out of package and wrapping.
    3. Dip bottom of pizza in water and sprinkle a little water on top.
    4. Set microwave to low power (2 out of 10). Add red pepper flakes to top.
    5. Heat pizza in microwave for 30 seconds. Crust should wind up cool and pliable.
    6. Set timer on toaster oven to 16 minutes and cook pizza on bare rack.
    7. A few minutes before the 16 minutes are up, scatter some shredded mozzarella on top of the pizza.
    8. Thump the crust to get a hollow sound to test doneness.

Nice. I almost always add cheese, fresh tomatoes, and fresh onions. Sometimes kimchi. I haven't played around with the cooking times or arrangements, but since I have a toaster oven, I pretty much never microwave a frozen pizza. I'm curious about how you thump the crust of a hot pizza. Do you mean the underside? Or the edges of the crust?

I thump the bottom crust. Flip the fingernail side of your finger against the crust -- the nail is not that sensitive to heat. Just use forceps or something to lift one side ot the pizza to bare the bottom which is to be thumped.
