Why is it no one noticed that since they passed the pot law, violent crime has gone up?????
    Homeless has also gone up.
What happened to the war on drugs?????
Used to be lots of public service spots about the evils of drugs.
    Programs in the schools.
Big rallies all over the island.
    Now nothing.
Did they just give up on the war on drugs????
I'm thinking the war on drugs is bad for votes.
politicians support anything that will get them votes, so it just works against them to support the war on drugs.
Notice the damacrats, said nothing about the war on drugs in this new year?????
Why do you think that is????
Could it be because it's bad for votes????
The problem with a majority of the homeless is drugs.
Most of the time, both parents(?) have no job because of drugs.
No job, no money, no home for the kids.
They go out an rob, steal, deal, trick, for money or drugs.
Kids see it, and see it's the way life is.
Attack drugs, and crime will go down.
    So homeless will go down.
Giving them everything for free, is not helping them.
Most of the time, they just sell it for drugs.

I have noticed that racist attacks have gone up, incidents of weird weather have gone up, and presidential lies have gone up. Who would have ever thought all of this could be tied to use of pot.

Everything can be connected in one way or another. Cause and effect, probability factors, etc.

In part. There are other reasons and causes which brought us to our current situation.

the lack of basic foot patrols is a huge factor, as is the causing of homeless / poverty from c1970 corruption from developers and politicians. provide homes, fiscal relief, and a civic report with cops face to face every day and guess what? it ain't rocket science, but Socialism...

You've gone more into detail where I was attempting to avoid saying and kept it general and generic. I've been ripped a new one and have avoided speaking my mind. Thanks. Police presence is all but non-existent from what I've observed. I live at a major intersection and can count the number of police cars on one hand in 24 hours. Unless of course, they receive a call. Then there are 3-4 of them racing to answer the call. Foot cops, what are those? Haven't seen one in years. When the cat's away, the mice will play. And, they've multiplied and run rampant.

More police presence (patrol and/or foot) requires more money. More money requires higher taxes. Which way do you want it, - higher taxes or living with the current crime and homeless conditions? Not ripping anyone a new one, a simple question requires a simple answer.

the number of officers needed is rather small, the costs would be minimal if used effectively where / when needed. they have 0 problem wasting $$ on failed projects like bikes and horses so sensible expenditures which reduce crime is a cost effective win win as businesses thrive.

I think you might be oversimplifying the costs. If a 10 minute arrest is made, it will require an officer a whole day in court for prosecution and sentencing. So to keep a presence on the street more than a few officers will be needed. Then there will be the cost of housing and feeding these "criminals." New prisons will need to be built and that will require more high priced prison personnel to guard these "criminals." All of this will be very expensive and will require a big increase in taxes. And that solution does nothing to fix, change, correct the behavior of the "criminal". This solution merely locks up the problem where it only festers behind bars.

Now you could tax the business community for this enforcement program, but as my friend @troubleshooter says. "nothing is free." The cost will simply be passed on to the consumer in higher prices for goods and services.

Solutions seem simple, but as a retired politician I can assure you, nothing is ever simple. Run for office, see what I mean.

Is this a joke? When did the Honolulu Police Department do "foot patrols" outside of Waikīkī?

Not in my lifetime. I've seen officers on foot buying donuts at 7-Eleven and Safeway. If that's what you mean.
