    Ask at Satellite City Hall, they have the forms. If it's a car dealer they will usually do it for you. It's really no hassle.

      Well don't hold your breath in anticipation of getting the plate anytime soon.
      I filled out the form the first week of June and have yet to get them. There is also a question on the form that asks "is this for a gift" so by my experience
      if it is to be a gift do it MONTHS IN ADVANCE!

        You must have the plates put into storage (at DMV) at your cost. When you buy the car the dealer will register the new plates (your DOC FEE's hard at work).

        Once the new plates come in, the dealership will call you telling you to come down to have the plates installed (Big Island Honda will go out to your home or workplace and do it for you).

        Once the new plates are on, you go to DMV, take your old personalized plates out of storage, and surrender the new plates at your cost.

        Why is this important? Because when a new car is registered in the State of Hawaii there must be standard plates on the initial registration.

        If you notice even on your existing car's registration, even though you had your personalized plates for a long time, the initial plates still appear on it.
        Life is what you make of it...so please read the instructions carefully.

          When I got a vanity plate, that was only the case for the first year. Now, my registration shows my actual (vanity) plate.

            My case too. I got mine as a gift for my 50th birthday, was surprised!

                Thanks for setting ME straight! I assumed the Vanity plates worked as do the Veteran plates.

                    In Kane`ohe:

                    MRS*2U

                    Can't remember the missing letter, but it seemed obvious she wanted some respect!

                      On a white Hyundai:

                      B4DIRT

                      I expected to see a very elderly person driving it, someone who frequently was accused of being "older than dirt," but nope.

                        At the price they charge, it'll never happen, but if I were to ever get one I'd choose

                        FIZICKS (can you have 7 letters?)

                        or if they'd let me use characters, I rather have

                        E=F^b

                          On a black Mercedes: SXY KTY. I assume it was for "SEXY KITTY." But, I couldn't tell through the tinted glass whether she really "qualified."

                            A few minutes ago in Kaneohe, on a pickup truck:

                            44 MAG

                            I guess maybe he reads 44 magazines.

                              Saw two good ones today. The first was

                              I-KANDE

                              on a new black BMW 328i... driven by a guy.

                              The second one was

                              SUZIKU

                              Now maybe that belonged to Suzi Ku(add the rest of the last name)... or maybe it was about Suzi Q... or maybe just becuase it was on a Suzuki.

                                Saw I-KANDE parked at Ala Moana Center. Also saw:

                                CUP CKE - cupcake;
                                NO LMTZ - no limits;
                                B TNKFL - be thankful?
                                YONKOT - ?
                                RD N-RD - ?

                                Some are truly mystifying.
