  • Re: What's playing on your iTunes & iPod?

If the songs are being played on one iPod, they should be transferable to another. All you have to do is authorize the 2 iPods to sync with the same computer running iTunes. This allows both iPods to share tracks from the same iTunes libraries.

Of course the songs originally had to be uploaded to iTunes, whether you bought them from the iTunes Store, Amazon.com, or other online retailer that iTunes support.

Also all music ripped from CDs are also supported by iTunes and should be easily transferred to your 2 different iPods.

    Caveats:

Songs purchased from the Apple iTunes store only work with iPods authorized with iTunes for that computer... That means all video content, most audiobook content, and about 90% of the music that is labeled as "Protected AAC". About 10% of the iTunes music is DRM free, and labeled as "Purchased AAC". Those can be transferred to any computer or device supporting the AAC format. Furthermore the DRM free AAC files can be converted to MP3 which allows even better compatibility with all devices.

Bottom line for music and audio files, MP3 is compatible with iTunes and any iPod as long as that iPod can transfer the content from the iTunes computer with the MP3s in them.

MP3 files can also be copied and played to non-Apple audio devices such as the Sansa music player.

After spending the last 2 days compiling the play counts for my various play lists on iTunes for 2008, I finally reset the software's play count on all tracks back to zero this morning. For 15,000+ tracks on my iTunes, the reset function took only 2 minutes.

So as of January 3, 2009 my iTunes play count is reset to zero. The first songs I played this morning are:

All Summer Long - Kid Rock
Sending You a Telegram - The NuRu
Did You Miss Me - Lindsey Buckingham
Trouble is a Friend - Lenka

Anyone else reset their iTunes play count for 2009?

My boss was very generous for xmas and gave me a large ITunes gift card. Today I spent a lot of it. One of the things I downloaded is the Robert Plant/Allison Krauss album. All I can say is: WOW

                      • Re: What's playing on your iTunes & iPod?

I tried to think what is the worst Beatles song ever. Since I am a Beatles fan I like all of their songs. However if I had to pick one that is the worst, I have to go with the one that usually always gets skipped when I play the album... and that would be "Revolution #9". I don't know if it even qualifies as a song, but I usually avoid playing it because it is non-sensicle and long (8 min 13 sec).

A close follow-up to that "song" is "You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)" which originally appeared on the B-side of 1970's "Let It Be" single. It was later issued to the "Rare Masters Vol. 2" album. Like "Revolution #9" this song is non-sense, rubbish filler... though I think the group had a fun time making it.

I have both on my iTunes and loaded into a couple of iPods. Still I skip these more times than I play em. "I Me Mine" while not the worst song IMO, gets played a lot when I do Beatles music on the iPod.

That's funny, Mel. I wasn't going to answer, because I don't like to call anything like that "the worst," figuring it's just something that doesn't connect with me. But...those were the first two titles that sprang to my mind anyway.

I "get" the creative musique concrete concept that is "Revolution #9" (in fact, I own several multi-disc volumes of experimental music that are generally defined as "noise"), but if you're looking to define it as a "song" - yeah, I'd agree that it's their "worst."

Since Revolution 9 has no singing, I wouldn't classify it as a song. So that is why it does not rate as my choice for worst song.

You Know My Name (Look Up The Number) may be on some fans' worst Beatles song, but Paul McCartney has gone on record as calling it his personal favorite song, FWIW. Anyone who is familiar with the old Goon Show (featuring the legendary Peter Sellers) would "get" its humor.

I Me Mine is my pick for worst Beatles song as it is George Harrison at his whiniest. (Considering all of the preachy songs that he had written throughout his career, that is really saying something.) To add insult to injury, John Lennon was totally absent from the recording session.

Worst Beatles recording of a non-Beatle written song? That would be Mister Moonlight. Ewwww.

Throughout the years, many of the Beatles recorded songs without some of their compadres anywhere near the studio. It's possible that Ringo was the only one who never worked entirely solo (that's speculation, mind you - I'd have to check my references to be sure).

Animosity ran high in the group from its earliest days - you've probably read many of the books that have come out in recent years about all that. If not, may I recommend a short read and a long one?
