  • What's playing on your iTunes & iPod?

Since this topic is "The Jukebox", I am sure several of us have Apple's iTunes and iPod music player and software. The software and the player are probably the ultimate consumer jukebox to have around these days.

After reading Blaine's iTunes list I was wondering what collection of songs do you play on your iTunes, iPod or other similar type of software player and hardware.

I have maintained a page that I occasionally update of the songs that I play on my 2 Macs that have iTunes and my recently acquired iPod. My latest list is always posted at this URL:

    http://macpro.freeshell.org/music/iTunes.html

It's a standard html table of the day's playlist that I cut out from iTunes, paste in Excel and then export as an html table to place in my template. My musical tastes are probably not as eccentric as most of you, though I do have a lot of music (mostly burned from my CDs) with a little more than 5,700 songs currently on my main iTunes hard drive (and most in my iPod).

What I really like about iTunes is that I can create dozens (actually I think I have close to 100+) of playlists with various mixes of the songs that I have in iTunes. Since I grew up mostly with Top 40 AM radio of the past, most of my lists tend to skew towards oldies of the 60s and 70s, though sometimes I mix other stuff up.

Perhaps we can use this forum to share our playlists and whatever it is that catches our fancy on those new digital players... iPod, Rio, Sony Digital Walkmans or whatevers.
    I'm still here. Are you?

Re: What's playing on your iTunes & iPod?

Great idea. I was just looking at some automated solutions that can take your iPod "Recently Played" list and post it on the web. I soon realized that maybe my taste in music might be a bit embarassing, however. Besides, half the listening I do on my iPod is to podcasts, now. The other half is music ('cause I'm at the gym and it's hard to work out to geek talk).

The music ranges from techno (a must for cardio training!) to Hawaiian (of course) to movie themes and music used in TV commercials (I went through a phase). According to iTunes, the most frequently played songs are:

    • "Delicate" by Damien Rice (featured in an episode of "Lost")
    • "Break Your Heart (Live)" by Barenaked Ladies (one of my favorite songs ever)
    • "Bananas and Rice" by Akamai Brain Collective (discovered when working on a podcast)
    • "Gotta Get Up from Here" by Ellie Lawson (would you believe it was a iTunes freebie of the week?)
    • "Holei" by Dennis Pavao (a classic and one my kids ask to hear)
    • "21 Things" by Alanis Morissette (hmm... unexpected)
    • "Lux Aeterna" from Requiem for a Dream Soundtrack (makes me want to make movies... or become a vampire)
As for podcasts? Geek News Central, On The Media (one of my favorite NPR shows anyway), Coverville, and despite myself, Adam Curry.

      Hi folks,

Great thread idea! Here's where I get my iTunes toys:

      http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?...15&button.y=12

This one exports iTunes lists to Delicious Library
      http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/17091

You don't know about Delicious Library??? Aaagh!
      http://www.delicious-monster.com/

These export your iTunes lists to an HTML file:
      http://www.macupdate.com/search.php?...15&button.y=12

This is the one I used to make my iTunes page:
      http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14800

This one automatically shows what's playing in your iTunes on the web:
      http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15358
But it looks like he's taken the product offline. I found another link that still works, but grab it quick!

Stuck in the Middle With You - Stealer's Wheel

+ That Governor Lingle thing could pass for a podcast as it is in a library of MP3 files that you can download off the Gov's website under the heading "Radio Show" where an archive going back to last year is maintained. I renamed the file after downloading it so that it fit the format of my iTunes listings.

Re: What's playing on your iTunes & iPod?

My son and son in-law bought iPods last saturday. My son tried to show me how to use one and play a song on his list of tunes.
Finally saw Creedence Clearwater Revival, played "Joy To The World". Sang along with my imaginary guitar like the good old days...my son then realized I was nuts!

I'll leave iPods & iTunes to you younger generation. I'll stick with the old fashion cassettes, CD's or better yet, radio.

Auntiiiiiieeeeeeeeee!!!! "I'll leave iPods & iTunes to you younger generation"? Auwe!!!!!!

I know for a fact that both Mel and I are older than you! And possibly others here in this thread, too. You not old, just nuts!

So I suggest you GO NUTS!!! Go download iTunes for your computer right now. It's free and really cool. http://www.itunes.com

You don't have to have an iPod to use iTunes to listen to music while you post on HawaiiThreads.com! Take your favorite CDs and import the music to iTunes. Then plug in the speakers or headphones and jam!

If you're feeling like an "out of body experience," go play some psychedelic music and click the visualizer button in iTunes. You goin' have hard time stop um!
