    Re: Obake Files

I've got an aunt who's really akamai and well-respected in the community.

But if you visit her house and hang out a bit, sometimes you'll hear her talking to someone NOT physically there. "Go away!". "Just go!" "Go now!". She's the only one who can feel an (angry) spirit when it's present in her home. He always sits in her chair and she has to chase him away.

Other members of the household have seen apparitions of a strange man that lurks in her kitchen. Some family refuse to sleep over because of this.

I believe the "6th Sense" is something you either have or don't have. You CAN see ghosts or you CAN'T.

Fortunately for me I don't have it, and I'm happy just the way that is. I'd rather NOT see ghosts. Never have in my entire life.

Will continue to share stories told by others though. Get plenty!

My wallet on the other hand is an obake experience in itself.. $$$$$$ seems to disappear into thin air!

So why do you not believe one can develop clairvoyance?
Or develop the ability to see "the other side"?

I listened to a discussion once on Art Bell's radio show about Technical Remote Viewing, also known as TRV. People with clairvoyant capability are placed under controlled conditions to specifically "target" information needed. TRV really is a SCIENCE of clairvoyance.

The department of defense and other authorities have contracted TRV experts for military intelligence and crime solving cases.

Example was the Fight 800 crash. Through TRV, they came to a "conclusion" that the cause of the accident was a failure within the fuselage's center fuel tank area.

On a more wild note, TRV "techs" were able to "communicate" with "Greys".. that is ALIENS.

If not mistaken, they did mention that TRV can be LEARNED if one applies their mind properly.

An intersting movie on the this type of subject is Minority Report (Tom Cruise). A future scifi based on precognition (ability to see an event before it takes place). Great flick!

Waimanalo Blues... or is that Greens? or Greys?

My cousin owns a home and horse stable business at the end of Waimanalo, just before Makapu'u. A place on Oahu NOTORIOUS for paranormal activity.

One late evening a few years ago his son was watching TV in his upstairs loft when a BRIGHT GREEN FLASH of LIGHT entered his room, followed by a thunderous BOOM that shook the house. My cousin was downstairs in the living room and heard the commotion.

They both ran outside and watched as this flash of green light hovered over their property, then immediately darted towards Sea Life Park.

So they jumped in the car and attempted to follow it, where it turned and headed towards Sandy Beach Park. Then it disappeared. NOTHING

They waited in Sandy's parking lot, and within minutes Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Chinook Helicopters showed up and began searching for "something" that was out at sea in front of the park.

When my cousin returned home, he called Kaneohe Marine Base to inquire about the incident, but the person he spoke with denied his entire account.

            Re: Obake Files

Oh, I love these stories and have a bunch to add...when work slows down. Kimo, have you had any of SoCal types of experiences in Hawaii? And, Pomai, the kids in the back of the minivan is amazing. I had the opportunity to speak with Glen Grant about a couple of my experiences. Now, that was fun!

I have a couple of short stories I can contribute now. The long one's I'll save for another time. With the exception of a few winter nights, I always turn on the ceiling fan above my bed at night. Prior to falling asleep one night all of a sudden the air circulation stopped as if the fan had been turned off. I figured it malfunctioned and stopped. When I turned on the light the fan was working just fine...just no air was stirringl I immediately felt a 'presence' between me and the fan but I felt no fear. Instead I asked the presence to please move on so that I could get some sleep with the much needed air. Within a couple of seconds the presence departed and the air circulation was back to normal.

Then there was the time I was involved in a 5 car pile up where the H1 and H2 merge. I was the middle car. The vehicle behind mine was a truck. That driver was slightly injured. The front of the car in front of me was completely smashed as the car in front of him slammed on the brakes, was hit, then took off. The front of the fifth car was heavily damaged from rear-ending the truck. When I realized that I had no choice but to ram into the car in front of me, I took my hands off the wheel, eased up on the brakes, closed my eyes, said a quick prayer and just surrendered to the inevitable front and rear ender that I was about to experience in a small sports car. I waited for what seemed like 10 seconds. I was afraid to open my eyes. When I finally did, my car had not been touched. It was so close, both front and back, that I doubt I could've slipped a credit card between the front and back bumpers. That accident was severe enough to make the news. Even the police couldn't explain why my car and I came away unscathed. Hmmm...that's not entirely true. My nerves were scathed for about 24 hours. A friend of mine told me that the area of the accident was known for night marchers and maybe there was some correlation. What I don't know.

              Moths: Superstitions, Omens

Tutusue, glad you came out without a serious injury.
This isn't you on the phone is it?

Have you ever heard the superstition that moths are the embodiment of the soul of the recently deceased?

When my grandmother passed away, a large moth entered our living room about a week later, and remained in the same place for about a week.

When my sister passed, a smaller moth hung around for a few days.

But we weren't brought up with this belief, so to this day I (pretty much) look at these experiences as pure coincidence.

Anyone heard of, had these experiences or have this belief? If so, what do you know of its cultural or ethnic origin?

Googlin' a bit, the term, Lepidopteral Symbology popped up. "Symbols relating to wings and the body".

Heh! No injury...didn't even get a tap on the bumper. Only the nerves were fried! That coulda been me in that picture...20 years ago!

I hadn't heard the moth "symbology" but I did experience the same thing as you but with a butterfly. My grandmother had passed a few years prior to a beautiful butterfly showing up at our home. It stayed and stayed and stayed. It would land on our fingers. I heard from a friend who was into the paranormal/supernatural, and not aware of the family's butterfly experience, that my grandmother said she was reincarnated as a butterfly. Go figure. Now, whenever I see one get close I hold out my finger. That special butterfly decades ago has been the only one to light upon my finger!

                  Re: Obake Files

it's not so much an idea of a developed soul reincarnating as an insect, which would negate the concept of reincarnation, as much as the possibility that one who has passed on to the other side being able to easily guide something small such as a butterfly or moth, finding it easier than concentrating ectoplasm and materialising to someone not at all sensitive or clairvoyant...

                    Our Aumakua

My girlfriend's family Aumakua is the Pueo, or Hawaiian Owl.

About 15 years ago, her mother was driving home at night with a friend from Kula (Maui), heading home to Kahului on a dark back road with no street lighting.

As they were driving, a Pueo suddenly appeared in front of them flying overhead. The Pueo continued flying within view for several minutes. It then suddenly darted ahead quickly and turned around, heading in the opposite direction.

Mom immediately knew that was a sign. So she stopped, then turned around and headed back in the same direction the Pueo flew, eventually taking the main highway back to Kahului.

The next morning in the Maui Newspaper, they learned a rock slide caused a fatal accident at a location they would have been headed had the Aumakua not warned them.

                        Re: Haunted Places in Hawaii

Has anyone here heard about the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki being haunted? Supposedly certainly floors are. This is new to me. If it is, what kind of haunting is it? I know lots of Nihongin tourists stay there, so I'm imagining somethin' like The Grudge (Juon). That's some scary $#it.

A friend from Maui is scheduled to stay there in December, but he's reluctant if it is. Whimp. lol

Hawaii Prince Hotel is that modern twin tower near the Ilikai Hotel on Ala Moana Blvd.. just in front of Ala Wai Boat Harbor.

They say some people can "feel" spiritual presences, while others cannot. The Alpha Female thinks she can - I never have.

But then, I also say that the word "gullible" is not in the dictionary...

                            Re: Haunted Places in Hawaii

I got a first hand account of nightmarchers on the Big Island and it's quite detailed and I want to write it properly. I need to wait til my computer saavy friend is around to help.

I tried 3 times to post it yesterday but all 3 times it was lost. It should be a good read, but I want to write it properly to get all the details to bring the reader as close as possible to the experience.

The night marchers are for real, no drugs , no imagination , not a dream.. it was the single most weirdest thing that ever happened to me.

I will post it as soon as I can.

                                Per Wikepedia:

"n Hawaiian legend, Nightmarchers (huaka'i pō or "Spirit Ranks," 'oi'o) are the ghosts of ancient Hawaiian warriors. On certain nights, they are said to come forth from their burial sites to march out to past battles or to other sacred places. Anyone living near their path may hear chanting and marching, and must go inside to avoid notice. They might appear during the day if coming to escort a dying relative to the spirit world. Anyone looking upon or seen by the marchers will die unless a relative is within the marcher's ranks- some people maintain that if you lie face down on the ground they will not see you. Others say that this only works if you are naked. Still others say that you should be naked, lie face up and feign sleep. Placing leaves of the ti (Cordyline sp.) around one's home is said to keep away all evil spirits, and will cause the huaka'i pō to avoid the area."
                                http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nightmarchers

I remember watching an episode of Hawaii 5-0 where the officer was in the car and the nightmarchers came to get the man in the hale whom they were protecting. It was so realistic.
