Wow Kaya... I wish you and yours all the very Best.

That was well written and touched my heart.

My children are young adults now as yours must be too.

    LOWERING EXPECTATIONS

All my life I've worked and toiled
There are days when really spoiled
I feel there's needs not being met
But truly to God they're wants I bet

I need to charge the battery
    Taking more than flattery
Oh how to balance all these things
    Running out of money stings

I'm driving the car on reserve
    Getting more than I deserve
Down to eating just my rations
    Lowering expectations

    God wants me to appreciate
Things He gave me, even late
Now my heart is very thankful
Lost my pride and got a tankful

    LISTENING TO GOD'S ADVICE

    Getting rid of every vice
    Coffee, beer and cigarettes
    Listening to God's advice
    Truly having no regrets

What used to be, shouldn't want
    Eating veggies and all fruits
    Cakes and doughnuts only taunt
    Being healthy, that's what suits

    Getting out to exercise
    Hiking, walking, swimming too
Jesus tells us this is wise
That's how to feel strong and new

hes probably in traffic trying to fight the race,
    Dinners ready, nice and hot,
his favorite spagetti, always hits the spot!

    Its 5:45p, he's a little late,
no big deal, no need to be irrate.
    Oh well, dinners still warm,
the aroma's, making the keiki swarm.

    Its 6:00p, I'll give him a call,
no answer, not even a ring, nothing at all.
    "Hi, hunny, hope you're okay,
dinners ready", my message would say.

Its 6:15p, oh well, lets eat,
    everyone digs in, except me.
Is he ok?, Is he hurt?, Was there an accident?
"Call home" was the text message I sent.

    Its 6:30p, still no call,
This isn't like him, no- not at all!
I'll call again, the phones on the shelf,
Why am I worried?, "he's fine", I say to myself.

    Its 7:00p, I call around,
Have you seen him? but he's no where to be found.
    Keiki, everyone go auau!
Ey, turn off that TV now!

    "But aunty come," they shout,
listen to what this is all about"
Their watching the news on channel5,
"Three killed in an accident, 1 yet alive"

No-please don't say it is so,
A Black truck pinned against a tree, is what they show.
As quick as it was, I could see,
    A license plate, "Lucky B".

Its 8:00p, the phone finally rings,
    the song,'My Sunshine' sings.
I answer without words, just a pause,
then a stranger explains the cause,
of why my huBby would not be coming home tonight,
This isn't happening, this isn't right!

Its 8:45p, I'm being driven to the hospital,
Details weren't given, please Lord don't let this be fatal!
Ma'am, let me escort you to room 204,
Policemen, nurses, a doctor stand by the door.

Its 9:15p, There he is lying
with every breath it was time he was buying,
I looked into his glassy, tearing eyes
I touched his hand, and to my surprise,
    He muttered, "My love".

It's 9:19p, he colsed his eyes and fell asleep.
Now in my heart is where I will keep,
All the memories of the love of my life.
Blessed am I for briefly being his Wife!

It's 11:40p and I lay alone in bed,
Troubled, sad, mixed feeling run through my head.
The pain stabs at me, right through the heart,
pick up the peices, look forward, is a good start.

Its 7:00am, I see the family,
"From now on, life will be great", how can that be?
How can she say that, what a crazy wife?
"I've already had, 'the worst day of my life' "
It can only get better from this point on!!!

    "Love you B!!!"

    Kaya -

I do not follow this thread...however, I went to the link after reading the other thread. (I'm not sure how many actually do read this thread as it's too peaceful and us people seem to like to converge on controversy instead of peace and love...)

My deepest condolences to you and your ohana...for this unfortunate incident.

I cried while I read these words... you have touched me dearly and I hope you are able to move on with your life to the best of your abilities.

Wow, Kaya, I can relate to loss. I've had three in the past three years. Your poem also made me cry for your pain. Now that I've skimmed through this thread, I will take the time to read it all, and return to it regularly. Kaya, here is one I wrote about renewal. It is simple, but don't let that fool you, there is so much between the lines....

    I AM
    I am the rosebush
    my stems violently severed
    with sharp shears
    the blossoms carried away
    dormant
    then
    water
a little sunshine nurtures my soul
my petals open up toward the sky
as I reach for the midday sun
    and
    I am alive
    once again!

    MUSIC

    Music touches all our souls
Be it rock, folk or reggae too
    Living life in these bowls
When all we want to do is woo

Give me that beat and melody
To take me back to when
    It wasn't this normalcy
    Living on just to spend

    Music changes us inside
    A mood that was eluded
    Because of other's snide
    But now I feel secluded

    WE ALL SEEM RATHER SMALL...

    We all seem rather small
    in the scheme of things
    Obviously going nowhere
just back and forth on swings

    I believe that conformism
makes for lost and empty lives
    Using untruthful happy faces
to hide the misery in our eyes

    One key could be contentment
    another may be striving
For anyone to feel of purpose
We must help our fellow being

Maybe we can't save the world
but can change the lives of some
By just sharing what little we have
and by calling him brother, not a bum

    WONDERING IF...

Never wanted to be rich, or even own a lot of things
Always wanted to live light, traveling in eternal spring
Got married at an early age, to a lady of like mind
She caught sight of the material world, then ending up blind

She truly didn't keep her vows and cost me to give up mine
No longer partners in this world, definitely out of line
The daughter I knew for her first few years, was then whisked away
Her mother found a man to take her, to the land of G'day

I never found that happy place, no never really again
Though had fun with the ladies or a terrific new friend
What I'm basically saying is that I'm a ruined man
I married another lady and doing the best I can

Oh, how to trust and how do I give from deep within my heart
When I've been hurting so very badly from the very start
Knowing that she means no harm, just coming from my perspective
I cause lots of pain and strife being overly protective

Wish I could change the past which would give me a better future
A future where I'm a better man, maybe even nurture
There's good in the world along with the bad, if I'd only look
Wondering if I can change my thinking when I write that book.

    Author: Jeff Ruddy aka.-Menehune Man

I just wrote this now. Had a little contact lately with my daughter in Australia and some things she says wells up a lot of emotion in me. Good news is that Mrs. Menehune returns from Fiji tomarrow morning!

AND I'M SOOO GLAD SHE'S NEAR

I'm not looking back in sorrow
Or am thinking ahead with fear
    Just finding happiness right now
And I'm sooo glad she's near

I thank God for my wife and love
For her tenderness heals my ails
She feeds my body and my mind
    And her love never fails

Live with the strength to do her right
Sharing all that I have to give
To be the best man that I can
    I know that she'll forgive

    School, working and playing together
We've shared all this and more as friends
Topics ranged from ants to the weather
Of God or silly fashion trends

My friend James had never let me down
And he always came through for me
When I needed to get out of town
He'd say "Go sit under that tree."

Though I'll miss him, I'm really not sad

    Abusive words

I see him, with hands clenched in a fist.
The first hour he cast his knuckles slugging my chest.
My muscles hurt as I seek the strength to persist.
“You’ll never amount to anything for the rest of your life.”
On cue my head slumps harder to the floor than I’ve ever hit.
Words like bullets lift me up, and pummel me to the ground.
He’s not there neither is she.
A phantom in the darkness and still I quiver.
I can’t stop the shaking nor cover my ears.
I look every where, but not within at my own fears.
Suddenly I see her, her hand whip across my cheek as I shout out in silence.
“You’re useless! What you think you’ll ever get anywhere?”
I see a small trait of her arrogance glimmer in her face.
“You’re good for nothing! Go ahead cry I’ll hit you some more!”
    “Damn Stupid Kid!”
“You’ll be just like your father, good for nothing!”
    “You lazy son of-“
“I don’t even know why I had you in the first place!”
    “You’re a mistake!”
Breathing turns into panting, and wheezing.
I feel my airway constricting against me closing tighter and tighter.
My chest heaves as though I am out of breath when panic starts to set in.
    No! Stop it! Go away!
Where are they coming from? They’re not here with me any more. I’m all alone.
I feel their dirty hands all over me, inflicting pain.
More so I feel their abusive words stabbing at my chest when anxiety hurts the most.
    And than it stops!
I don’t hate me no more, but somewhere in me there words still linger.
    Why won’t it go away?
A Warrior does not give up on what he loves he finds the love in what he does.

    A Rat in hiding

    Sometimes I feel
    Like a rat in hiding
    When people walking below
Are full of talking and chiding

    Just sitting quietly
    While they pass by
Take a drag on my smoke
    And of course wonder why

    Seems the city life
    With it's close-knit weave
    Making information overloads
    Till the time we leave

    INTERNATIONAL

    In this world's society
    No one should discriminate
    The team
    Everyone cooperates and
Realizes that we are all one
No one can stop our minds for wanting
And dreaming for a better tomorrow
There's no one who's perfect, not even close
    In this life.
    One can lose hope, but
    Never surrender
    Always together
    Leading people to reality.

A poem I wrote while at sea...

    Sailing through the Pacific High

I'm sure I see every star that ever was and those that are yet to be
Sailing through the Pacific High as on a mirror of antiquity
Searching the skies as our ancestors pondered
Full of the same awe and wonder

All those stars in concert together though I can still hear each solo
Seemingly all so perfectly placed as if done by Zorro
The constellations and ones I've made up
    Have overfilled my heart's cup

Feeling so small out here on the ocean with few for company
I must do my part, be a team player, and be the best me
So often in life we act as if we're alone
Being in this together is the real tone

    Here's another recent arrival...

    Three Modern Day Adventurers

Three modern day adventurers set out upon the sea
A capable Captain, a Gilligan, and a lad full of glee
Aboard a thirty foot sailboat from San Diego to Hawaii
Very lovely vessel both stout and steady

Sunrise's in the East and sets in the West
The same as the direction of this quest
Twenty six days at sea for this group of three
Holding our course though the weather is heavy

    Now having accomplished our mission
    Though never did really christen
We made it home to Hilo's dome
Back on land and wrote this tome

    Author: Jeff Ruddy

Note: I'm the 'Gilligan' reference. HaHa!

An Ode to Charles and Pauahi

There once was a haole named Charles
    Who liked Hawaii a lot
    Really wanted a Princess
And that is what he got

Their love was dear and enduring
    In death as in life
They built a school and museum
    Dedicated to his wife

    While Kamehameha's got money
    Pauahi's museum does not
    Wish the school'd adopt us
    Or again maybe not
