He truly is my Best Buddy
James has helped me to get past my fears
And to even find life funny

    School, working and playing together
We've shared all this and more as friends
Topics ranged from ants to the weather
Of God or silly fashion trends

My friend James had never let me down
And he always came through for me
When I needed to get out of town
He'd say "Go sit under that tree."

Though I'll miss him, I'm really not sad
Because he's in that better place
Only selfishness would make me mad
So I'll just remember his face

A friend and I spent the day together @ James'.

    "BEEN TWO YEARS"

Been two years since he passed away
I sure do miss that guy
Wen we go... he no stay
It makes me think and cry

    Visited the valley once more
    Out Kaaawa side
    Filling me to the core
    I opened my eyes wide

Stories and laughter of our James
You know you're thought of friend
    Memories were the aim
    My heart, on the mend

        Abusive words

I see him, with hands clenched in a fist.
The first hour he cast his knuckles slugging my chest.
My muscles hurt as I seek the strength to persist.
“You’ll never amount to anything for the rest of your life.”
On cue my head slumps harder to the floor than I’ve ever hit.
Words like bullets lift me up, and pummel me to the ground.
He’s not there neither is she.
A phantom in the darkness and still I quiver.
I can’t stop the shaking nor cover my ears.
I look every where, but not within at my own fears.
Suddenly I see her, her hand whip across my cheek as I shout out in silence.
“You’re useless! What you think you’ll ever get anywhere?”
I see a small trait of her arrogance glimmer in her face.
“You’re good for nothing! Go ahead cry I’ll hit you some more!”
        “Damn Stupid Kid!”
“You’ll be just like your father, good for nothing!”
        “You lazy son of-“
“I don’t even know why I had you in the first place!”
        “You’re a mistake!”
Breathing turns into panting, and wheezing.
I feel my airway constricting against me closing tighter and tighter.
My chest heaves as though I am out of breath when panic starts to set in.
        No! Stop it! Go away!
Where are they coming from? They’re not here with me any more. I’m all alone.
I feel their dirty hands all over me, inflicting pain.
More so I feel their abusive words stabbing at my chest when anxiety hurts the most.
        And than it stops!
I don’t hate me no more, but somewhere in me there words still linger.
        Why won’t it go away?

            A Rat in hiding

            Sometimes I feel
            Like a rat in hiding
            When people walking below
Are full of talking and chiding

            Just sitting quietly
            While they pass by
Take a drag on my smoke
            And of course wonder why

            Seems the city life
            With it's close-knit weave
            Making information overloads
            Till the time we leave

              INTERNATIONAL

              In this world's society
              No one should discriminate
              The team
              Everyone cooperates and
Realizes that we are all one
No one can stop our minds for wanting
And dreaming for a better tomorrow
There's no one who's perfect, not even close
              In this life.
              One can lose hope, but
              Never surrender
              Always together
              Leading people to reality.

A poem I wrote while at sea...

                Sailing through the Pacific High

I'm sure I see every star that ever was and those that are yet to be
Sailing through the Pacific High as on a mirror of antiquity
Searching the skies as our ancestors pondered
Full of the same awe and wonder

All those stars in concert together though I can still hear each solo
Seemingly all so perfectly placed as if done by Zorro
The constellations and ones I've made up
                Have overfilled my heart's cup

Feeling so small out here on the ocean with few for company
I must do my part, be a team player, and be the best me
So often in life we act as if we're alone
Being in this together is the real tone

                  Here's another recent arrival...

                  Three Modern Day Adventurers

Three modern day adventurers set out upon the sea
A capable Captain, a Gilligan, and a lad full of glee
Aboard a thirty foot sailboat from San Diego to Hawaii
Very lovely vessel both stout and steady

Sunrise's in the East and sets in the West
The same as the direction of this quest
Twenty six days at sea for this group of three
Holding our course though the weather is heavy

                  Now having accomplished our mission
                  Though never did really christen
We made it home to Hilo's dome
Back on land and wrote this tome

                  Author: Jeff Ruddy

Note: I'm the 'Gilligan' reference. HaHa!

That second poem reminded me of Winkin', Blinkin' and Nod. Very nice, Menehune.

And now, my first attempts at Japanese haiku

                    はるやすみ
                    もういなくなった
                    あっ、ねむたい

                    空の夜
                    だろうく まで
                    綺羅星だ

An Ode to Charles and Pauahi

There once was a haole named Charles
                      Who liked Hawaii a lot
                      Really wanted a Princess
And that is what he got

Their love was dear and enduring
                      In death as in life
They built a school and museum
                      Dedicated to his wife

                      While Kamehameha's got money
                      Pauahi's museum does not
                      Wish the school'd adopt us
                      Or again maybe not

                          Thanks Frankie!

                          Kauai's a special place
                          Which shares openly
