Re: Local TV Jingles From Yesteryear

The song still haunts me to this day. The company: Town & Country Termite.

I think you're right... it was paper cutouts on a stick. And after the termites danced around a bit, the house fell down.

Can't help you out on the lyrics, but I can still hear that lady singing. Aaaaaaaiiiggghhhh! It won't stop playing in my head! Look what you've done!

I remember a guy with a strong Mainland accent advertising on a radio commercial and clearly said, "Right next to the Ala Mo-Way-Na shopping center.

How about the Hawaiian Host commercials in Japanese on channel 13?

          And my favorite:

Why are you drinking your Meadow Gold milk? To build strong bones?
          nope
Are you drinking it because it is good for growing bodies?
          nope
Well, then why ARE you drinking your Meadow Gold milk?

Because when I'm pau, I get my ice cream!

              Classic quotes

Not a jingle but just a line that a friend reminded me of last night:

If you're not buying your diamonds from the House of Adler,
              you ARE paying too much...

              That is all.

Re: Local TV Jingles From Yesteryear

I did both the Longs and Woolworth jingles that seemed to run forever (Longs is still going), produced by real professionals, of course: Griffiths-Gibson, George Mann, Skinny Joe ...

Those guys used to come through town, wine and dine the CD's and producers, hang out with Valenti, Seigle, McCombs, Quenzer ...

And then they actually scored commercials.

I don't love the current commercial music, and it distrubs me that so many national spots rely on pop standards to commuincate their messages.

An old fart talking, I know. But, still ...

Ha! Me, too. Meeeeeeeeeeeemories! Frank, Jack, Stu and Mique (Graham and Pete, too)! And what was the guy's name from G-G in Vancouver? It's right on the tip of my tongue... He's part of my long term memory so I should remember it! His 'sales meetings' were usually held pau hana at TGI Fridays! An Aussie if I remember correctly. Great guy, too.

In 1988, my daughter embarked on Semester at Sea out of Vancouver. I called <name?> while we were there and did he and his wife ever show us a wonderful time...drove us around the city, took us out to a great sushi restaurant and took us into the studio where Bon Jovi was recording in one room and The Cult was rehearsing in another. My 20 year old daughter about lost is...almost cancelled her trip to apply for a job at G-G!

Back to the good ol' days...wasn't there a lot of needle drops going on at that time, too?

                            Winp? Have we met?

I'm Jim Winpenny. Graham and Pete are still working. Peter does post work (Purely Post) with his own facility in Kakaako. I'm having trouble remembering the GG rep's name, too. Rugby player from down under, preceded by a delightful balding guy who carved out the island territory for GG then moved on to Portland, I think. Damn! Well, one of us will remember.

                              Who are you?

                              Jim

Well, while we're all waiting to see what Tutusue has to write to Jim Winpenny, I'd just like to say hi to the dad of one of my favorite dudes in town. And his Hawaii daughter is pretty cool, too. Never did meet the Windy City Slicker, though!
