Re: Local TV Jingles From Yesteryear

I always dug the Rinso commercials where there's the old dude getting bashed by his wife for buying some detergent they never used before (or something like that).

His only reply was, "I like da package!"

        Stellar marketing.

I still recall it (semi-)vividly despite 35 years (and a lot of alcohol) under the bridge.

With two strokes and several TIA'S, I can't seem to remember any old commercials except the black and white one with the beaver riding in full knight's gear for Colgate Toothpaste!

I remember mall jingles well for some reason.

              Ooh! Aah! Oh Wow!.......
              Ala Moana!

Pearlridge makes shopping what it should be
              Pearlridge is fun for everyone
There's so much to see and do, cause we bring the world to you....
              Pearlridge Center

              Shop at Kahala Mall....
              It's Easy Living

              And here's a car one:

At Cutter Ford Aiea, where you make the deals (delivered stylishly by the Lady of Love)

This one sticks in my mind and bothers me to death. Why it's still stuck in my brain I don't know. Who can guess the political candidate this jingle was for:

              He's working quietly, but effectively,
to do what is best for Hawaii.....

              Hint: Quietly=Mumbling

                The full Exchange Orangeade Song:

The exchange goes round round round
                and down down down
                in your glass glass glass
                makes your mind
                think yum yum yum
                It's that Orangeade called Exchange

The exchange goes round round round
                and down down down
                in your tum tum tum
                makes your mind
                think yum yum yum

Since you talking about mall jingles, how about

Kuapa Kai, in the center of Hawaii Kai. Kuapa Kai!

And while Kenny's is not a mall, we for certain know that it's:
"In the Kam Shopping Center in Kalihiiiiii."

Your thinking of Bucky Beaver I think for those toothpaste ads, I think he had a comeback in the Grease movie......

I think they brought back the Kam Shopping Center ad for at least radio recently, I know they do tv ads now with I think the jingle as a instrumental only.

See these ads bring back alot of memories I wonder if anyone out there has old beta or vhs tapes laying around that has these old ads on it so we can relive them again.

Re: Local TV Jingles From Yesteryear

The Kenny's jingle is back.....but the lyrics have been changed to the "politically correct" ..."In the KAMEHAMEHA Shopping Center in Kalihi".....Not quite the same as we all remember.

Funny coincidence if anyone's seen the spot is that it features former UH Baseball player Kenny Harrison and his family.

                          Couple doors down from Kenny's:

                          "Star Market, it's a 5 Star Experience."

Also remember the Woolworth's ads with the artist drawing something in black ink on white paper, then the shot would change to a color picture of what he drew and the actual product. Always ended with:

                          "We're Woolworth's, Hawaii's favorite store"

They had Karen Keawehawai'i as their spokesperson too, until she got busted for shoplifting at Long's!

Woolworth always had this funky plastic smell... sorry, nothing to do with the thread, but just an observation. I think it was the candle department that just permeated the whole place...

Yeah. Always smelled like a warm box of crayons.

I always loved jingles. I'm always tickled to see that jingles are still "in" here, as well. I get the feeling they come and go as a national advertising trend (and lately, original songs are out and buying pop songs is in), but islanders just can't stop singing, whether it's about a service station or a travel agency or a truck bed liner.

Does Hawaiian Host still use its "Hawaii's Gift to the World" tune?
