  • Re: Making A Community Better, Safe, Sight, & Sound!

    (bumpty bump)

Last month I became a member of NB Board 14 Liliha.

At this month's meeting, Rep. Corrine Ching's assistant informed the NB Board of next month's celebration of the 7th Annual Liliha Festival. To be held on Sunday at Liliha/Kuakini Streets. (Area of Longs, Finance Factors, Liliha Bakery, and Pizza Hut.) Sounds good?

I am all for the festival.

Upon hearing of this, I asked the young woman questions. She said "We have the APPROVAL from the City and County!" No discussion. The Chair opened another discussion on whether we would have a "Booth" at the festival. Another member and I voted No. How could I vote yes, when I was still confused on how they got the permit to closed down the street.

Yesterday, I called the Department of Transportation. The Director, Wayne Yoshioka called me back. Per our conversation, they are "in the process." She lied. He then said "they have the landowner's approval." And Rep. Corrine Ching belongs to the Heritage thing and wants to "showcase" the renovated buildings and the new building (Long Drugs).

Well, I went today and submitted my letter and copies to Council Member Rod Tam, Rep. Corrine Ching and Senator Suzzane Oakland-Chun.

Part of the letter to Mr. Yoshioka:

"The Liliha Festival has been celebrated at Prince David Kawananakoa Middle School for many years. It would be safer and less inconvenient to residents to continue it there.

As a N.B. Board Member and citizen, I am greatly concerned about the residents who live in the area and the community when a major street is closed just to "Showcase" renovated buildings and a new building! I am concerned about the following things which could adversely impact area reidents:

    1. Entering and exiting of Kuakini Street.
    What are the alternate routes?

    2. Alternate Parking promised by the Event Host.

    3. Handicap Arrangements.

    4. There was absolutely not enough information given and time to address this event to ask ALL Residents as well as the Whole Community.

I am not against this event. I am against closing down of a street."

    * Upon further investigation, they told the Senator's Office the side street next to Liliha Bakery was closing, not Kuakini.

I've organized with a friend another clean-up day.

Got a bunch of folks together back in 2005 and it's time to do it again.

On Monday at our NB Meeting, I was elected Treasurer.

Sad to report, two of my signs have been taken down, another tagged
and another damaged. I have reported it to Democratic Headquarters and
will report it to HPD this morning. If you see anyone doing something suspicious to any canidate's sign, please report it. It is against the law.

Aloha! On Monday, 3/14/2011 I was appointed to the Aiea NB by all eight members. The NB 2011 Elections will be held sometime in May/June. I will keep you posted or you can go to C&C Website.

Also, on a totally different topic but a very important one. Would anyone be interested in taking FEMA Training next week? There's opening on Wed., Thurs. and Friday. Please PM me. There is an application process.

I was thinking about you the last couple of days, wondering about that election. I haven't seen anything at all in the newspaper or on the TV news. Maybe tomorrow.
Anyway, I expected you'd get elected. You deeserve it.
