          Re: Top Albums of All-Time

I go more for particular artists rather than individual albums -

John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, Nnenna Freelon, Renee Olstead, Michael Buble, Billie Holliday, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, Jack Johnson, Empty Hats, anything my students have recorded, Aaron Goldberg Trio, Dan Monroe, Amy Winehouse

I'm sure I'm leaving out some. Some of these have been an inspiration to me and others I have worked with and/or are friends with, and others I just admire as artists.

          Specific songs I like -

Dear Prudence - the Beatles - first use of a sub-kick mic.
Revolution 19 (18?) - John Lennon - first use of sampling (the old school way)
Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt - piano was recorded in Cary Fisher's bathroom - if you listen closely you can hear the difference in reverb between the voice and piano (not artificial)

That's all I can think of right now and probably more than anyone wanted to know (a smilely face should go here but they don't seem to be working).

Love, love, LOVE the new Amy Winehouse album. The Dap-Kings backing her up make it 'specially funky--weird Etta James, Ronettes vibe to it.

I agree 100%. A friend of my son went out of his way to bring me a copy. He said "you gotta listen to this - you're going to love it!" - and he was right.

While not in my all time top 10, I too bought the Amy Winehouse album a few weeks ago when it was on sale at BestBuy for $8 on a friend's recommendation. Good and soulful music, several of the songs are added to my iTunes high rotation playlist now.
                  I'm still here. Are you?
