Serious as in people who want to write entries and to share their insight, people who would actually use the resource to it's fullest and share their blog with others

does it bother you or is it in violation with any rules
Yeah, it bothers me, too. You don't need to make your signature bigger than the post. Don't worry, everybody knows about your blog site by now. You don't need to turn your sig into a billboard.
does it bother you or is it in violation with any rules
ok, guess I need to say it.
The above are not my only two choices;
but yes, it bothers, for many reasons.
it is ugly. not pleasing to the senses.
It could be seen to violate many rules:
it goes contrary to guidelines of aesthetics.
It is not in line with the general feel of good/decent netiquette.
IF... people get a sense that you haven't even grasped the basic nature of the sig, which universally is known to exhibit a much smaller font size than everything else, (and a while ago, was known to be best kept at about two lines or so...) folks also will not have faith in your ability to run a decent blog site.
(also, if yer gonna attempt to get people to yer sites that supposedly reflect a professional air, get a frikken thesarus!
"still in dev, but still a great..." is as amateurish as it comes. And ferkrisakes; capitalize our state name. no shame, where's your respect?!
and, yea, as ZZ points out, we don't like billboards 'round dese parts, pilgrim. until it's a much smaller font, it's a bloody billboard.

Did you create the hurricane site as well? I have a suggestion if you do...check for typos
ok, let's run with this...
get rid of the un-needed "that"
"Here's some interesting facts."
repeat the timeworn adage everyone has known since grade one:
IS is for singular.
ARE is for plural.
To expect people would want to be guided by an amateurish hurricane preparedness site is the height of egotism.
again. whip out yer thesaurus bowah! "extensive" is used too extensively.
speaks dumb of ya!

nooo!
why did you capitalize the word "Help" ?
this is ALL wrong:
"From their you can make a contribution to the relief effort and find out other ways to help out all those who lost their lives and property"
s/b
"From their you can make a contribushion to the relief effort (ffft oh, scuze me) and find out other wayz to help out all thouz who lost they're lives and property but if they have no life, what da hell they need property for anyway, can I have it."
THAT is how it should read.

No.
It should say from "THERE"
Not "THEIR"
Not "THEY'RE"
Not sure about helping those who lost their lives, but...
From there you can make a contribution to the relief effort and find out other ways you can help those displaced by this disaster.
hihurricane- I didn't make the content on that site it was contributed by my group partners in a democracy class so what you're seeing is the result hawaii's education system and a lack of concern from my group to correct these things. Now pointed out I will eventually change them, but it is not high on my priority list.
as for the sig it was changed before you even made your comments, regardless I frequent graphic design and web forums where sigs consist of an image usually a small banner. Netiquette is not a global but is defined by the domain and the occupants.
As for me being an amature i must agree with you I am, is there anything wrong with that. I'm offering a free service which i have worked very hard on, and want to succeed.
For some reason i feel like you are attacking me, maybe I'm misinterpreting your suggestions but they seem unfriendly. I'm sorry if i have done something wrong or offended you in any way I don't want to cause contention but i also do not want to feel like i'm being attacked.
Cameron, the suggestion that has been made is that you go back to your signature file here on HT, and make all the text that is there a smaller size than the default text (which is the same size as that used in the messages), particularly since you have so much text in your sig.
You can use a different font as well, if you like. It appears you have design skills, so you should be able to experiment with it and see what comes out looking a little better.
