  • Re: Cockroaches?

The last time I encounted a big cockroach was in the shower and all I had with me was a squirt bottle of Clorax. I didn't expect to kill the roach by spraying the chemical on it, maybe at least stun it enough so I can at least flush it down the toilet. I spent at least 2 or 3 minutes spraying Clorax on it and still it was moving without slowing down.

Finally the roach got close enough to me such that I could grab with some toilet paper and then flush it down the toilet. And I flush twice just to be sure.

You. Live. In. The. Tropics. Roaches happen. Get over it because it's just a fact of life here. No matter where you live, or how clean you are - you will have roaches. and the big B-52's love hot humid weather.

I use the HoyHoy Trap A Roach from time to time. You do have to change the traps about once a month or so. While I haven't seen these things catch a big roach, it will catch the smaller ones which I guess prevents them from turning into big roaches.

the big ones are a different breed from the small german ones. and I have seen bait traps for the large ones but i don't remember the brand.

Those big ones will never fail to freak me out. I've gotten used to the ginormous wolf spiders here and am just like, "Ho hum, whack, whack." But those roaches will always gross me out! Ew!

Can't think of anything creative this time

Oh, dear! Those are more commonly locally known as 'cane spiders,' I'm sure, and they are quite gentle and quite timid. If you are too creeped out to pick them up by letting them crawl on your hands/arms (as I do - they do not bite large mammals unless threatened, and the bite is less than a bee sting), get a large-mouth jar or glass, trap them against a wall, floor or counter; take some card stock to slide under the opening, and just let them go outside, where they can do their job of eating... COCKROACHES!!!!
