Perhaps the Hawaii Foodbank might be a good candidate to take over. According to their site, 27% of their funds are from special events, which would make Taste of Honolulu a perfect opportunity to replenish their supply.
The $300k they made at this year's TOH event might be chump change in the medical research industry, but that could sure as heck buy alot of food and other commodity items for families in immediate need. It also makes sense since The Hawaii Foodbank is already in partnership with the restaurant and food industry.
Of course, volunteers are the key for such a logistically-demanding event like TOH.
My girlfriend had a blast working her company's booth all 3 days of this year's event.
