  • Recommendations for Hawaiian plate lunch, cake noodle

Hello, this is my first post here.

I'm a kama'aina transplant, planning to visit home next month for about 9 days. We've got most of what we want to eat mapped out, but I have a couple of categories unanswered:

    1) Hawaiian plate lunch. Kalua pig, lau lau, lomi salmon, poi, squid luau, you know da kine. Wheah fo' get da bes'?

    2) Chinese cake noodle. Pan-fried noodles, crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside, cut into squares and smothered with meat, seafood, veggies, and lots of brown sauce. Was thinking McCully Chop Suey but do you know someplace better?

We will have a car, but preference is for someplace between Chinatown and Kahala (unless it's so ono, you gotta make the drive!)
    Aloha,

What is a Kamaina transplant? I take it you were born and raised here then moved to the mainland the returned? That would make the only sense.

Anyway squid luau...there's a hole in the wall right at the end of North King street near where Middle street hits it. Go odea for some ono Hawaiian grinds like squid luau.

I'm not Chinese but oh man Yen King made some outstanding cake noodles in the northern style with black bean oyster sauce.
Life is what you make of it...so please read the instructions carefully.

Leong's closed down several months ago. Helena's on N. School Street makes an authentic Squid Lu'au. Infact, all her Hawaiian Foods are authentic. There's some pic's located here on the threads. If you do a search that pz took dining at Helena's for lunch. I'll check to see if I can find um.

If not. You gotta search yourself.

I recommend Ono Hawaiian Food, Pomai already posted the info. Oh man, I get hungry even thinking of it.
I'm disgusted and repulsed, and I can't look away.

[QUOTE=launate]Hello, this is my first post here.

                            :

I would go to Helena's or Highway Inn for the Hawaiian food. Supposedly On On Restaurant have the best cake noodle but I never had it so I can't say.

For a good cheap Lau Lau plate is Masa's Massive. When it is on sale it is $3.50. The best part it is not too salty. I cant eat at Ono no more the slat kills me the next few hours. I have to drive 2 quarts of water to get rid of the salt jitters.

House of Dragon and Aiea chop suey have great cake noodle. My favorite at House of Dragon is the Seafood Combination Cake Noodle with black bean sauce. the noodles is crispy on the outside and chewy inside. I hate soggy noodles which I find at most other chinese restaurants. you can have any topping you want on the cake noodles.

Mixed vegatables (and you can add pork or beef or chicken)
                              Seafood Combination
                              Beef Broccoli

They can also make it with Black Bean sauce. which enhances the flavor and makes it different.
