I'm a former newspaper reporter. After I bought my first computer, I taught myself web design and software programming and I have been working as a freelancer ever since.
I also write fiction. Three of my books have been published since 1999 -- two novels and a short story collection.
I live in Nuuanu Valley in Honolulu. In the past I lived on Maui and the Big Island. I majored in anthropology at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
I'm a video editor and motion graphics (pretentious-lingo for "computer animation") designer...you've most likely seen my work on local TV...but I'll let you guess which ones they are :P
For some odd reason, I also know Perl, PHP, MySQL, general CGI programming and other geek stuff as well. I just wish I had more passion for that stuff, because it's damn near impossible to make loads of money being a video geek in Hawaii.
When I first came here in 1981, I was in the USAF
Then I got a job as a computer operator at Kaiser
Then I got a job at the Advertiser as a casual clerk, editorial assistant, proofreader, intern, staff writer and copy editor
Then I got a job at PBN
Then I got a job at PRWorks (ugh)
Then I got a job at home: MOMMA
Then I was crazy enough to take a job at a media monitoring service
(Hit me on the HEAD, puh-lease!)
Meanwhile, I drummed up clients and did free-lance writing full time
And that's what I do most of the time now, but I also got a job as an editor and webmistress. I love the commute, everyone goes west into town, I go east past Sandy Beach.
Security officer extrordinaire at the Bishop Museum. Lots of night-time activities happen here to keep it interesting along with the occasional ghost story. Working evenings gives me days to play, but that'd be a whole other thread yeah?
Life is either an adventure... or you're not doing it right!!!
Then, uhhh, Aaron what's with the big-ass Wal-Mart smiley as your little pic over there?!!!
Boy do I feel old, when the generic smiley face which surfaced about thirty five, (yes, 35) years ago... is NOW equated to one of the most ubiquitous commercials representing a cheap mass merchandiser.
This is how "pop culture" denigrates... to nothingness.
