    Re: The March to Socialism

Funny --- timkona would often comment on "the politics of NO" in this country; I didn't realize how easily that label would apply to the GOP.

Once again, people who do not posses a uterus have passed legislation on the backs of those of us who do. Once again, women's rights ave been kicked to the curb so that a bill can get passed. I'm so disappointed in my politicians and especially in the president. He & the representatives have lost all of my support. FOREVER.

What would you have had him do, hand over the country to the cons over this one last make-or-break sticking point that can be dealt with later? HC had to succeed simply for the kamikaze tactics of the ultra-partisan opposition in their blood lust to destroy Obama. Now things can move forward with a strong prez.

i completely understand your bitter disappointment, anapuni--really i do. it sticks in my craw. it sucks that reproductive rights are so easily given away as trade for things like better access to health care. i'm glad the health care reform bill passed, but like you, i am disgusted people like stupak held enough sway that the agreement HCR would not be used as commentary on reproductive rights was tossed into the toilet.

yet if we don't support obama, who will we feminist pro-choice liberals have? instead of abandoning them completely, we need to pressure them to move forward--and repeal hyde.

You'll have Hillary Clinton when she runs against Obama in 2012.

Where did I leave my hat? It might taste okay with ketchup. The next stumbling block is the us supreme ct, the corporate stooges who will declare health care unconstitutional. Try to get sick in Canada or France or Mexico, things will be much easier for you.

NARAL's press release nicely summarizes the dilemma and internal discord felt by those of us who support the right to choose, with their statement of "We assessed the health-reform package ... and determined that, because of the egregious abortion-coverage restrictions, we could not endorse this bill. But, because the measure has other very positive provisions for reproductive health, we couldn't in good conscience call for the bill's outright defeat and thus deny millions of American women and men the promise of better—although imperfect—access to health-care services that are important to our pro-choice values."
