Re: What pisses you off? - Chapter 7

How about idiotic people who don't have any consideration for others!!.

I live next door to another apartment, & sometimes those people that lives there would either talk really loud or watch tv really loud past 10:PM (perhaps 11 Pm or 12 midnight or so)!!.

I had to call upon the manager of the place to make a complaint several times already!!.

I would think that they are adult enough to realize & have consideration for others, apperantly not!!.

I'm just glad that other house with a loud chirping bird so early in the mnorning; that the bird died, & they never replaced it. LOL. =p

What other things that pisses me off is, the fact that the cost of living is going sky high, I.E. Cost of other apartments, which it makes it more difficult for people to move out & into a new place!!.

What happened to the good old days anymore?? =(

    Sheeesh!!.
    Aches & Pains

It pisses me off that the rest of the country gets to choose between two NFL games this morning and in Hawaii we get to choose only the Washington Vs. NY Giant game or Cartoons or Nascar Racing

              Serenity:

I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier, but I don't read this thread and would never have known about it if someone else didn't mention it to me.

If English is your difficult subject, then Miulang's giving you great advice, which you've already acknowledged. If you need help, I'm really busy but I can definitely make some time to help you out. Another bit of advice: Talk to an advisor at the student center, and find out which English teachers are known for giving lighter workloads. Then meet that instructor, explain some of your difficulties, and ask if he or she thinks you can handle. If you get the go-ahead, then go for it.

Anyway, let me know if you need some help.

Scrivener - once again, thank you for your sense of balance. As I mentioned on another thread, your one offer of kindness counters a whole bunch of "meanness" on HT.

Somewhat related to the red bra incident on the I-75 in Ohio...

This morning when I was getting gas I noticed I had a stowaway on my antenna.

It was a praying mantis. A big one, in fact.

I thought that the drive from Mililani to Kaimuki would get that buggah to fly or hop off, but when I parked this morning, the thing wasn't on the antenna anymore...it was on the roof!

Believe it or not Adrian to some hooking up a computer can be very intimidating.

I have a projection TV set that is coupled to a home theater receiver that is tied to six speakers, a dvd player, a satellite box, a VCR, a wireless transmitter to transmit anything going to the TV set to another room, a receiver that receives my computer's XP Media Center 2005 media, and a host of other inputs from PS2's to PSP's, to various outputs to send to wireless and wired speakers and video monitors spread throughout the house.

Even for a certified AV specialist that can be daunting. But for a novice that can be pretty intimidating.

My computer has all the standard stuff hooked up (printer, USB hub ext hard drive, ext dvd rom drive) but the hook up can get difficult when you consider the DV inputs, DVI out to my second monitor and the MCE remote. Thank God for USB connections.

Back in the early 80's to configure a printer to a computer was agonizing! Setting up dip switches on the mobo. One wrong setting and your mobo is fried. All connections was done on an RS232 25-pin connection. You had to designate either null or not, SND and RCV was on pins 2 and 3 respectively then you had your DSR, DST and other communication signals configured properly as well as the handshake and parity check settings.

Most older people who used computers back then still are a bit traumatized by all that ancient going's on. So when they see a computer and it has to be moved, well it brings back some pretty bad images.

But if there's anything more than a power plug and an antenna connection, it can be intimidating for a few people out there.

Now Adrian, imagine me telling you to relocate the differential valve from the right side of the MSA-30-10 propane metering system to another location. I might add that there are a crapload of stainless steel tubes that sense differential pressure between the pump and the metering system and the dispensing hose plus another set of tubes that are used for bypass and remote sensing. Basically a ton of hoses and pipes hooked into this monster.

For me it's a piece of cake but to someone who doesn't know crap about LPG metering systems, it can be like defusing an atomic bomb that's ticking away, because one wrong disconnect and that white vapor you see all around you isn't a propane vapor cloud enveloping you, it's the entrance to them pearly gates with St. Peter greeting you.

So instead of getting pissed off at this gesture they ask of you, think of it as they are relying on an expert to do something they feel inadequate at doing themselves and they trust your aptitude.

Or they're just too fuckin lazy to do it themselves
Life is what you make of it...so please read the instructions carefully.

Adrian...Craig's right. When you get this type of irksome request one idea might be to have the person with you when you disconnect. At that point, label each end of each cable (I use sticky, rectanglar labels) with a corresponding mark on each port. Once the equipment is moved, ask your "student" to reconnect everything under your watchful eye. Success breeds confidence. If they reconnect successfully and you leave the labels attached they'll have the confidence to go it alone the next time. I've owned a computer for 16 years and I still don't know what I'm supposed to know from what I don't need to know!

I don't need to label anything for my computer set-up because it's so simple but I do need to do that with my TV and all of it's components. It works like a charm!

Thanks so much for the reply, but I think the only way out is to quit the class. If I could transfer to a different class, I probably would.

Since it is already to late to do so in switching class, I only have one option left.

Thanks for replying back, great advice, & the help aswell.

If you are still around & not so busy, next time around, if I am having difficult time in a class, perhaps in an an english class again or what ever, I'll consider your offer.

                            Thanks so much again.

Re: What pisses you off? - Chapter 7

One evening while working part time at Home Depot, I was on the floor for over 6-hours without a break and can of Mountain Dew under the belt ready to explode.

As I was gingerly making my way back from the middle of the store to the restroom a gentleman asked me to cut his wood molding for him. Typically for molding we offer a cutting station with a saw and a miter box as molding is sold by the lineal foot (linear foot whatever). We cut the larger kinds of wood so it can fit in a person's vehicle on a table or panel saw.

I told the man if he could wait just two minutes because I really had to go. But he was insistant and I figured he'd get all pissy if I did the typical Home Depot thing and pass him on to a shadowy associate lurking around the next aisle.

So I cut his wood and let him go with a smile. Bladder at critical level I made it WHEW what a relief. Little did I realize that simple act cutting his wood for him instead of him using the self-help table made him a loyal customer to this date has built three homes all from product from our Hilo Store.

It seems that this guy could build homes but couldn't cut wood molding. Oh well but I do whatever it takes to win customers. In life we are tested everyday for our acts of kindness no matter how trivial it may be, the fruits of our efforts will bless us if those efforts are humble.

So what pisses ME off? Customers who simply can't wait their turn for help and fellow sales associates that perpetuate the attitude we are so unfairly judged upon as a whole. Yes there are bad apples but Hilo Home Depot's overall satisfaction rate is just around 70%. Sometimes we don't have product, heck this is Hilo everything gets barged in from Honolulu. We are a home improvement store, kinda like an ACE on steroids, not some kind of warehouse stocked to the rafters with a thousand sheets of CDX Plywood. WE have over 60,000 individual items for sale at any given store nationwide. To stock them all we can only have a limited quantity of each. We don't have a back warehouse, our warehousing space is right above you in the racks that hold them. So if you see an item on a display shelf and nothing in the rack below it. The only space for it is directly above it, not in some mythical back warehouse. We have one big Orange box and practically all of it is retail space.

I love working at Home Depot. It's the only job I've ever had that requires me to engage with our customers and talk plus get paid for doing it! But every once in a while you get a customer who didn't take their meddies and starts ranting about how bad the sales associate was for not helping him or her because he or she was helping another customer or was on the floor for almost 4 hours without a single break all the while having to put up with other crappy customers who never learned the art of patience.

Yes sometimes associates do a 180 when they see a customer trying to grab their attention. I've never had to do that but I can understand some who do. That associate may know that customer as an asshole, or like me they had to go really bad. Or as I sometimes have to do, after dealing with a very intense customer for over an hour, you need to reset so you can engage with another customer with a smile so you seek out a fellow associate to vent on in an aisle and just when you're ready to pop your cork about that asshole customer, another asshole customer comes up and starts ranting about you doing nothing but wasting time. So you leave immediately because you're about ready to clock the next smart-ass person but you can't because it's against company policy to clock customers Yes they actually have a policy against abusing customers (I guess it happened once or twice).

But there are some bad associates and they typically don't last more than their 90-day probation period anyway. Those that do usually get pulled in and have their hands slapped, suspended or fired on the spot. But for the rest of us who try to help customers (even the asshole types) we don't make a whole lot to take that kind of abuse, no job is worth being yelled at by some inconsiderate person who doesn't know the difference between a Brite Duplex 16D nail and a 16D galvanized box nail. I tell them, "Go ahead and try to frame a house with Duplex nails let along Brite Duplex and see if the building inspector passes your home", (you friggin idiot).

Why should I try to engage with a customer who is bent on proving you wrong by using a double-headed non-galvanized nail that won't stand up to treated lumber rather than a galvanized box nail that will. But hey it's your house, come see me in ten years when it falls to pieces when that zinc nail corrodes from all that Hibor termite treatment in your studs, joists, headers, and trusses attacking every one of your nails you inapproproriately used despite my warnings against using just so you could save a buck on a 5lb box of nails.

Yeah pissy customers piss me off. Right Aaron? But like I tell all customers even those stomping off like some 3-year old who didn't get that firetruck in the toy section, "Have a good day and come back again" I think I'll request a punching bag in our breakroom.
