OK, we've got a patient that requires monitoring all weekend, so I won't have time to do hummus. I'm going to have to take the easy way out...it'll be chips and salsa for my contribution.

Bring a bucket of distempered gnats if you have to. What matters is that you are there! There'll at least be pizza to spare, and I'm going to be adding my grill to Aunty Lynn's to double the delicious kal-bi output.

Sounds intriguing...bet it would taste good with some spices on the grill! Where can one acquire distempered gnats in Honolulu? Anyone?

Awesome! And don't worry. There'll be a lot of disoriented geeks. We'll all recognize each other. The mix of folks coming and the menu is looking absolutely fantastic. I can't wait!

Haha, I recall that dip. It was actually a concoction of cream cheese and an xxx-hot habanero jelly. (And I wasn't totally mean--I DID bring a milder version too). Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to make it up to the swap meet, which is where I got the jelly.

Remind me a coupla weeks in advance of next year's picnic, and I'll make sure I bring it!

The salsa is fresh, and it's probably just medium heat this time.

Hope you have fun today, everyone. We were originally expecting to be over in Yakima, WA, for a big kanikapila this weekend but snow (in April! Lucky you live Hawai`i...) in the Cascade Mountain passes kept most of the Seattle contingent away. Instead, I'll be at rehearsal with one Hawaiian group this afternoon (preparing for the Folklife Festival in late May), then playing music at a party for actor Yuji Okumoto, at his Kona Kitchen restaurant; he turns 49 today.

I will be thinking of you all, however, I truly will!
