As demonstrated above, you can always bring in smileys and images from elsewhere (provided you own them or are allowed to). Also as demonstrated above, the three images per post limit... and to some extent why HawaiiThreads is not the graphics free-for-all that other message boards are.
There are plenty of forums where funny pictures make up a significant portion of the submitted content. From the beginning, I've hoped HawaiiThreads would be a place where the written word ruled. We've got the little smileys that come with the software, but beyond that... you'll have to be creative.

Bummers, I'm not creative at all when it comes to stuff like that. Gee, today I even had to review how to do a multi-quote in HT. I'll never advance to inserting a Stink Eyeball unless it is on a button to the right of my screen.
