Each weird phrase below is two advertising catch-phrases stuck together, with the word that joins them removed! For 1/4 of a point each, identify the word that's missing and identify the companies, services, or products that are being hyped. In some cases, phrases might have been shortened in order that they might make sense, but the wording (and the order of the words) remains as it was made famous. You must get the missing word and both products/companies for the quarter point. Nothing for a partial answer!
        • Army Enough for a Man
Army STRONG Enough for a Man
          U.S. Army; Secret Antiperspirant

        • It's the Only Way to the Friendly Skies
It's the Only Way to FLY the Friendly Skies
          Western Airlines; United Airlines

        • Finger Lickin' to the Last Drop
Finger Lickin' GOOD to the Last Drop
          KFC; Maxwell House

        • Let's Make Things Sound Through Research

          Phillips; Bose

        • Because You're Worth Takes a Licking
Because You're Worth IT Takes a Licking (and keeps on ticking)

        • Life's Times Begin at _________.
Life's GOOD Times Begin at (the Fun Factory)
          LG; The Fun Factory

According to the question, you get a fourth of a point for each item if you correctly identify the missing word AND the products or companies that are being hyped. Nobody got all six for the maximum of 1.5 points!

These people got 5 for 1.25 points: kiwidiva, liberty, Leo Lakio, InfinityProductions, Peshkwe, tutusue, Surfingfarmboy, Kalei99, and acousticlady!

Getting four right for 1 point: zztype! He is the only one who got the Fun Factory one, but he misidentified one of the airlines and the coffee! Ooooh...that seems like it could have been easily Googleable, no?

Getting three right for .75: helen.

Getting two right for .5: mel.

What comes immediately after "My name is Cinderella / I live across the street?"
"I wash and dry the dishes / for fifteen cents a week!"

This is part of a patty-cake rhyme I could only find evidence of in one place on the web, and it was a local forum. As with most folklore, there are variances "based on location and coinage," says Peshkwe, but I could tell if you knew it or not.

One point each to Mike_Lowery, liberty, zztype, Leo Lakio, InfinityProductions, Peshkwe, Surfingfarmboy, and Kalei99!

No points, but props for tutusue's answer: "And if you wanna meet me / You'd better kiss my feet!"

In each of the music-related images below, something is missing.
For one point, what one word describes the theme of the missing parts?
For another point, what is each a picture of (be specific!)?
Here are the "answers" to the first three images:

In order, it's Motley Crue's pentagram (the star was removed), Paul Stanley of KISS (whose star makeup was missing), and a common Rush image, used on shirts and tour programs, with the star removed.

To be continued in the next post!

Here are the other three images, corrected:

In order, they are Arsenio Hall and his house band (missing Starr Parodi), the constellation Lyra (missing one of the stars), and the music of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" with the note for "star" missing!

Peshkwe and Kalei99 both made the Arsenio / Star connection by remembering that Arsenio was the host of Star Search (Peshkwe said that what was missing was Arsenio Hall from show business!). At first, I wasn't going to count this, but then I remembered that all you had to do was identify the photos, not say exactly what was missing. Kalei99 almost lost a point there!

According to the question, you get one point for identifying the one word that serves as the theme for the missing items; I'm hoping it's plain to you that the word is STAR!

Correctly identifying that word and earning one point are liberty, zztype, Leo Lakio, Kalei99, and acousticlady!

You got an additional point if you correctly identified all six of the images, as did zztype, Leo Lakio, and Kalei99!

          -----

There were mulitple entries by lots of you, including THREE from Kalei99 (who finally got that RUSH one on her last try, but never corrected the Arsenio answer) and I think FOUR from zztype!

Here are the current standings, with appeals still pending!
          52: Kalei99
          44.75: Leo Lakio
          41.75: liberty
          40.75: Surfingfarmboy
          40.25: zztype
          39.75: acousticlady
          37.75: tutusue
          33.75: InfinityProductions
          32.5: lavagal
          29.75: Mike_Lowery
          29.5: CranBeree, mel
          24: kanahina
          16: Peshkwe
          15.75: helen
          11.5: Palama Kid
          10.25: kiwidiva

I sent Scrivener a "bonus" rhyme along with my answer - here 'tis for anyone else who may have learned it (don't ask how I, a non-Islander, learned it):
Da eensy weensy cockaroach went up da water spout/
Out came da tutu and bashed da buggah out/
Out came da spidah and bit da buggah's head/

Yep! There is more than one web site devoted to old advertising slogans but none that I could find devoted to old, LOCAL, advertising slogans!!! I knew the last one was local but, for the life of me, I couldn't remember it or find it online. Thank goodness I've never worked on any Fun Factory spots or I'd be kicking myself really hard!

I figured the last one had a local connection, too, so we called the AF's parents, but they couldn't get it. I took a wild guess and said "Good Times Begin at Times Supermarkets." That was the only one that stumped me.

I thought the "star" link of those six images was one of the most clever questions Scrivener has posted; I started to recognize what was missing from about three or four of them, and when I made the connection, the rest just fell into place. The fact that they were all music-related was just a bonus.

                              when they get older
                              they'll know how to play with . . .

                              Paulie had a birdie
                              thought it was a duck,
                              took it round the corner
                              taught it how to...

                              Fry the eggs for breakfast
                              fry the eggs for tea,
the more you eat, the more you want
                              the fatter you will be.

                              Ask me for a muffin
I'll give you day old bread
and if you do not like it
                              you can hide in....

                              Betty had a baby,
                              she named him Tiny Tim
she put him in the pisspot
to see if he could swim.

                              First he does the backstroke
                              then he does the crawl
                              over goes the piss pot
                              knocking Tiny Tim all to.....

                              Please give me number ten
                              And if you disconnect me,
                              I'll sing this song again!

Here are the answers for Day 19!

[*]It's the Only Way to the Friendly Skies
It's the Only Way to FLY the Friendly Skies
                                Western Airlines; United Airlines

Getting four right for 1 point: zztype! He is the only one who got the Fun Factory one, but he misidentified one of the airlines and the coffee! Ooooh...that seems like it could have been easily Googleable, no?
Arrrgh! I found the Western Air link during my searches, but I also found reference to American with the slogan "It's the Only Way To Fly." Figured I'd go with the larger carrier. Oops, I lost. I bought he wrong one. I even remember the cartoon bird (a stork?) in the commercials.

The coffee was just a mistake. I didn't research it, I just pulled it from memory, confused the two. Folgers, It's Mountain Grown."

                                Bah...
Make trouble, have fun, do good stuffs.
